Announcing the 2015 AVAC Advocacy Fellows

January 15, 2015

Dear Advocates,

AVAC is delighted to announce the 2015 AVAC Prevention Research Advocacy Fellows – the sixth class of Fellows! We hope you’ll join us in congratulating these seven talented advocates and find ways to collaborate with them in 2015 and beyond.

The 2015 Advocacy Fellows were selected from a pool of 66 applicants from 13 countries. AVAC thanks all of the applicants and their proposed host organizations for the time and effort put into this process. We’re also grateful to the independent review committee of advocates, scientists and former Fellows that guided decision making.

The 2015 AVAC Advocacy Fellows are:
  • Friedel Dausab at the Society for Family Health (SFH), Namibia
  • Maureen Luba at the Dream Program, Malawi
  • Anna Miti at the Pangaea Zimbabwe AIDS Trust (PZAT), Zimbabwe
  • John Mutsambi at the TB/HIV Care Association (THCA), South Africa
  • Kenneth Mwehonge at the Coalition for Health Promotion and Social Development (HEPS), Uganda
  • Carolyne Njoroge at the Key Affected Population Alliance (KESWA), Kenya
  • Paul Sixpence at Centre Stage Media Arts Foundation, Zimbabwe
2015 will be an exciting year for HIV prevention research and implementation, bringing important developments on a number of fronts. It will also bring new challenges in taking results to policy and rollout, influencing the research agenda and ensuring civil society’s voices are heard. The 2015 Fellows have bold ideas to address many of these opportunities and challenges in their Fellowship year which begins on March 1.

Please visit the Fellows program page as well as the individual Fellow links on our website to find out more about this year’s Fellows and what they hope to engage in!

These seven 2015 Fellows join a fantastic group of 38 impressive Advocacy Fellows Alumni from eight sub-Saharan African countries and China who have participated in the program in its first five years. Please visit the AVAC Advocacy Fellows page and follow our P-Values blog to learn more about the new Fellows’ work throughout the year and to learn about the Alumni Fellows' ongoing work.

A Call for Applications for the 2016 Fellows Program will be announced in May 2015 with an application deadline in July 2015. If you would like to be notified of the 2016 Call for Applications, please email us at

If you have any questions about the Fellows or the program, please email us.
