EFLTC Newsletter

12th March 2021

From The President

It was International Women’s Day on Monday, and it got me thinking, how are we going here at EFLTC in respect to encouraging participation and enjoyment of Tennis by Women at EFLTC.
We’ve got a long history of great contributions to the management and operation of our Club by Women, and of our current 249 members 105 of them are female, which I think is pretty well balanced.
It has been a challenge (in many sports) however, to get junior girls to continue to play on as they transition into adults.  Other interests take over, life gets busy, careers, family etc etc means we often don’t see these young ladies again until …..ahem…. they are slightly older ladies.
So I’m proud to be able to celebrate some recent success in attracting younger ladies to our Club. You would have seen our young ladies playing Saturday Division 1 – and finishing an incredible 3rd place on the ladder in only their first season (which means they are the 7th best pennant team in WA when you add in the 4 State League teams).  What a future these girls have.  And we have a new group (Trish and the Corona kids) who have joined and formed a Saturday Winter Pennant team – fantastic to see.  Particularly impressive have been the efforts of Nadia and Narelle to develop a gentle pathway for more young Women to enjoy tennis through the Mums & Bubs program (Monday mornings), and beginner social session (Tuesday arvo). These are proving successful in attracting new ladies (some who have never played tennis) as visitors initially, and with some now transitioning to full members.  I’m sure there will be more to come.

Twilight Tennis Open Night Success
O What a Night!  The club was abuzz last Friday night at our very first Twilight Open Night. Even the rain couldn't keep the community away (which is a great sign for our Club’s future).  With over 200 people attending, it's safe to say that the event was a huge success. The courts were overflowing, the balcony full, and plenty of children and adults enjoying the club! Thai on Tyres sold 160 delicious meals !!!
With every successful event, there is a team of people working to make it tick. A HUGE thank you to the below members who went over and above.

Janine, Nadia, Sanne, Marion, Bill, Graeme S, Kerry, Jayne, Jane, Stephen, Chavaune, Sasha, Sheila, Graham H, John, Peter H, Alex, Fran, Doug, Leanne, Julie & David, Danny, Robyn, Penelope, Marie Prichard, Jason D.... there is a very long list so thank you to those we may have missed.   Also, a big thanks to Matt Bull and his team of coaches who helped make the kid's coaching run so smoothly.

When can we do it all again!?
Tyrepower O'Connor Corporate Tennis Day!

Unfortunately due to the Open night being postponed we have made the decision to delay the Corporate Tennis Day until a later date. We have exciting plans in the works so please watch this space.

Round Six

Some things change ad some things remain the same.

On Saturday 21 December, members and friends [of EFLTC] thoroughly enjoyed a special Christmas function at the club. A sumptious meal of turkey, beef, ham, roast potatoes, pumpkin, peas and corn followed by fruit mince pies and icecream was served to start the
evening. At 8:30pm a program of Christmas Carols by Candlelight and other items commenced with our Captain Les Green, as Master of Ceremonies. This was a great night of entertainment and our thanks go to Les and his “merry band of ladies” (with a couple of men
assisting). The club will be hosting members from the Margaret River Tennis Club at the end of January when the two clubs vie for the Challenge Trophy. During February we will be conducting our Round Robin Competition and in March our Club Championships will
commence. Wednesday night tennis continues to be very popular, starting at 6.30 to make the
best use of daylight saving. The Annual General Meeting will be held in April and we are looking for some of the  newer members to put themselves forward to assist on the Management and other Committees.
I wish all members and their families a very healthy and prosperous 1992.
