Our Story: Dislike Magazine

In the opinion of Rebekka Gerber, Sarah Pia, and Katja Zellweger there are enough opportunities to display, talk, and write about our “likes”. While there is of course the “dislike” thumb everybody knows from the social media, there is no substantial discussion of all the many things and situations that are nerve-wracking or just plain stupid. The three young women decided to create a magazine to encourage an informed and positive discussion on the negative side of everyday life. The Creative Hub supported the magazine by looking at the business side of the project, on topics such as product strategy, finances, PR, and communication work, etc. – The Dislike Magazine (with the beautiful but hard to translate subtitle of “Magazin für Unmutsbekundungen”, “Magazine for the manifestation of displeasure”) can now be ordered at www.dislikemagazin.ch. The project is exhibited at “Bestform” in the Kornhaus Forum Berne until 18 May 2014. It can also be found at Kulturbüro Bern, 14 – 24 May 2014; and at Art Book Fair, I Never Read, Volkshaus Basel, 18 – 21 June 2014.

Workshop 2: Crowd Funding

Crowd funding is internationally one of the biggest trends in financing projects as well as start-up activities. Projects promoted by artists and designers on the Swiss “wemakeit.ch”-platform were able to raise 2 Mio Swiss francs over the last years thanks to the involvement of the immediate and wider communities of the crowd funders. However, there are a few rules and tips to successfully launch your own campaign. Want to know more?
Rea Eggli (
www.wemakeit.ch) is the co-director of the platform; she will guide you through a workshop, which consists of an introduction on crowd funding, self-study work on a real or potential campaign, and a discussion at the end.
Berne, 28 May 2014, from 17.30 to 20.00 hrs
Rea Eggli, Wemakeit
General information: The Creative Hub offers a series of workshops on entrepreneurial topics with a strong emphasis on the design industry and hands-on information. They are open to everybody – even if you are not an entrepreneur yet and just toying with the idea. Most workshops take place in Berne and are held English; one workshop takes place in Lausanne (place to be communicated in time) and in French; one in German (read more). The participation costs CHF 50.00 per workshop.

"When designers meet angels", a panel discussion of the Creative Hub at the Design Day

Business angels and designers talk about the pros and cons of angel investment in the creative industries, or more precisely, in the design industry. We will ask and discuss questions such as: What drives business angels? Why do they invest in companies and start-ups at all? What would be the best moment to involve angels or other forms of investors? Does a design entrepreneur loose control when he choses to cooperate with a business angel?
On the panel are discussing: Pascale Vonmont (vice-director of the Gebert Rüf Foundation), Jan Fülscher (managing director of Business Angels Switzerland), Tizian Fritz (PhD-student at the University of Basel working on a thesis on impact investment), Sandro Marzo (fashion designer) and Flavio Crüzer (CFO of Sandro Marzo), Sandra Kaufmann (design entrepreneur solsolito), and Claudia Acklin (managing director of the Creative Hub). The panel discussion will be held in German.

This panel takes place at 16.15 – 17.15 hrs on 18 June 2014 and is part of the “Design Day” during the Art Basel. To read more about the Design Day in French or in German go here.

Which programme is right for me

For all, who might be wondering whether they fit in with their project: We developed a decision tree that will support you in finding out where you stand and what offer of the Creative Hub is right for you. The tree comes with the typology of the (almost-)determined, the experimenter, the determined, and the professional. Are you – for example – interested in launching a mini series of your product to test the market? If so, you might want to look at the Creative Link programme. Did you already found a company but you feel that there is so much more you could achieve with it? If so, you might be a candidate for Creative Committed, a course that digs deeper into entrepreneurial topics. You can download our decision tree here (in French or German).

Last call for Creative Link ( 3 rd Call)

Designers that have a product or service prototype and want to receive coaching from experts on their way to place it on the market can apply for the 3rd call of the Creative Link programme. The deadline for submissions is the 23rd May 2014. Creative Link starts with a first in depth analysis of the projects with each designer on mid June 2014. The number of places in the programme is restricted. More information and the download of the application form you can find here.

sandro marzo is asking for support

sandro marzo

The young Swiss high end fashion label Sandro Marzo is asking for support of their crowd funding campaign. Over the last months the Creative Hub has been supporting sandro marzo through coaching and workshops. The team is writing (in German):
