December 9, 2018 “Sustainability: It's About People” Denise Szarek
Denise, a local farmer from Three Goat Farm in Westmoreland, will speak about sustainable agriculture. Sustainable agriculture is about the environmental integrity, about the economic viability and about social responsibility, but ultimately, it's about people.  The fundamental purpose of agriculture is to meet the needs of people, to tip the ecological balance in favor of humans relative to other species.

Caroling will begin on the steps of the Oneida County History Center at 4:30 PM. A reception inside will begin at 5:00 PM, followed by a program with participation from the RSVP Readers Theater, Members of the Proctor High School Choir and JROTC, as well as our own Rev. Erin and Brian Howard, Exec. Director of the OCHC. This is the first year we have joined together with others, from our community, in the true spirit of the 1914 World War I Christmas Eve Peace Truce. Please join us as your schedule allows.

CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS

Sunday December 2nd the congregation helped trim our Christmas Tree in the sanctuary (picture to right). Thanks to all that stayed to help out.

The YWCA, Domestic Violence Transitional Housing Program, sent a letter of thanks and appreciation for UUU's generous donations. They want us to know how much it means to staff and the women and children to know our congregation thinks about their needs.

2018 Holiday Tree Collection “Sharing the Warmth of Community" UUU will collect winter hats, gloves, scarves and warm socks, to be donated to Dr. MLK Jr. Elementary School, beginning December 9th through January 13th. These donations will allow staff to provide children who arrive at school, without warm winter accessories, these items in a caring and discrete manner. While many organizations work diligently to provide, coats, boots, and toys for children, items such as these are harder to come by. Please share the warmth this holiday with children who brave the cold winter as they walk to school in their neighborhood.
National Grid Clean Energy Choices Explained by the Climate Action Sub Committee

There are 2 programs for consumers to choose alternative energy sources for their electricity:
  • Green-Up Providers - We believe this is the easiest of the choices, with 3 energy providers that clearly mark how much of their energy is from wind or small hydro.  T)here are no solar choices here to our knowledge.  The 3 choices are: New Wind Energy - Community energy (1-866-WIND-123, www.CommunityEnergyInc.com) They offer 100% wind or 60% wind with 40% small hydro. EnviroGen - (1-888-828-8358, www.envirogen.net) They offer 100% small hydro. Sterling Green from Sterling Planet - (1-877-457-7712, www.sterlingplanet.com) They offer 50% wind and 50% small hydro.
  • Click here to read more about the other programs.

December we will be collecting Seasonal sweets and candies, healthy non-alcoholic beverages, hot chocolate mixes, nut mixes, etc. The goal is 50 items.
We always collect non-perishable foods in the kitchen.
See our current items collected here!

Rev. Erin's Office hours are 1-4PM, Tuesdays. Rev. Erin is off on Fridays.
