#2 BAD SPAC

At their highs, five electric-vehicle startups that went public through mergers with special purpose acquisition companies were worth $60 billion. The corrections that followed have been brutal. Three of the companies plumbed new lows this week as short-seller attacks, management turmoil and execution issues lead investors to reconsider their prospects. 

#3 THE UNICORN MAKERS

An unprecedented number of companies have became unicorns this year: 5 months into 2021 there are 166 new companies, compared to 163 for the whole of 2020.  Tiger Global is the most active investor in the 2021 crop of new unicorns as well as in private unicorn startups overall and it has twice as many unicorns in its portfolio as the next-biggest unicorn investor: Sequoia.

#4 WANNA BE A VC?

What is the easiest way to become a VC? Join a Venture Scout program and start looking for companies to invest in:  "For the past three years, I have had two jobs. I work full-time as an engineer at Google and part-time as an investor at Bessemer Venture Partners." If you find a good company and the VC decides to invest in it you earn a a finders fee on that.

#5 THE RIGHT WAY TO "PITCH"

Fundraising is selling. You are literally getting money in return for selling a part of your company. Because fundraising is selling, many of the lessons from how to be effective at sales apply directly to fundraising. Your goal is to get from push mode into pull mode as quickly as possibly. What do I mean by that? You want to stop talking and let the investors ask questions.
