The Palo Alto City Library wishes you all a happy and safe holiday season! Staff have come up with great ideas for celebrating this year, from creative gift giving (Crafty & Cozy and From Trash to Treasure ideas) to enjoying Winter Holiday picture books with the family and tips for celebrating.

The Library is grateful for all the support the community has shown us in 2021. We’re all hopeful for a happy and safe holiday season, and a much better new year in 2022!

Upskill 2022

Want to learn a new skill? Over the next 11 months, customers will have access to six top online learning platforms thanks to funding from the California State Library and the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Workforce Development & Support program.

The online learning platforms include: Access to these amazing learning resources is available through September 30, 2022.

Come Visit Us!

All five branches are open for browsing, pickups, studying and computer use. Masks are required for all visitors 3 years and up regardless of vaccination status, and seating is still limited for social distancing.
 

Hours of Operation:

  • Children's Library: 
    • Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Saturdays: 1–5 PM 
  • College Terrace Library:
    • Thursdays & Fridays: 1–5 PM 
  • Downtown Library:
    • Thursdays & Fridays: 1–5 PM 
  • Mitchell Park Library: 
    • Tuesday–Thursday: 11 AM–8 PM 
    • Fridays & Saturdays: 12–6 PM 
  • Rinconada Library: 
    • Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays: 10 AM–6 PM
    • Thursdays: 12–8 PM  
The Library will continue to add more hours to our locations in 2022. Keep up with all the changes to our Current Library Services and Reopening Plans on our website.

Special Holiday Hours in December:

  • Downtown, College Terrace & Children’s Libraries will be closed December 24 through the end of the year. They will reopen on:
    • Children’s Library: Tuesday, January 4 from 1–5 PM
    • College Terrace & Downtown Libraries: Thursday, January 6 from 1–5 PM
  • Mitchell Park and Rinconada Libraries will be closed on: 
    • December 24 & 25 (Friday & Saturday) 
    • December 31 and January 1 (Friday & Saturday) 
Please check our Hours & Locations to plan your visits. Remember—our eLibrary is open 24/7!
The Mitchell Park & Lucie Stern Community Centers will be collecting toys for the City’s annual Toy Drive, starting December 1! The City is also hosting a House/Business Decorating Contest this year, so sign up to participate and show off your holiday spirit!

The Friends of Palo Alto Library will be holding their monthly book sale on December 11 & 12. Many thanks to our Friends for supporting library collections and events.

Spend the holidays catching up on some reading! Library staff have curated special winter holiday booklists for all!
