AAWC has enjoyed a wonderful monsoon!
  • Festive Celebrations: This monsoon, we celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr, Gopalkala, Independence Day, Raksha Bandhan and Teachers' Day  with devotion and festive fervour.
  • AccoladesApne Aap Women’s Collective (AAWC)’s Udaan project has been shortlisted among the Top 50 projects out of more than 500 entries from 70 countries worldwide for the Project Inspire: 5 Minutes to Change the World competition, which is a joint initiative from the Singapore Committee for UN Women and MasterCard. Moreover we are now eligible to receive grants from Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).

  • Capacity building: Our staff attended workshops on leveraging the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2015 as a fundraising platform, use of digital media to retain and grow donors, work-life balance for women in the 21st Century, child protection,child rights, social innovation, government schemes for PLHIV and also the NGO India Giving Back 2014 Conference-cum-exhibition organised by UBM and GuideStar India.
  • Monthly medical check-ups: Umeed, Umang, and Udaan members were examined by medical teams from Reliance Foundation and Decimal Foundation and administered drugs, iron biscuits and flavoured soya milk, as per necessity.

  • Career exposure visit: The girls visited the office of PricewaterCoopers(PwC) , interacted with the staff and also enjoyed fun activities.
  • Career guidance: The girls attended a workshop on occupational profile and also learnt about Architecture as a career and Geography as a degree, conducted by our volunteers, Allegra and Mary.Regular computer classes have been started for girls.
  • Mentoring: In collaboration with Raindancer, Project Lighthouse one-to-one mentoring programme for girls was started.

  • Edutainment workshops: Our girls attended classes on English speaking, drama, ballet , drawing, diyaa-painting, theatre, clay Ganesha idol making conducted by our dedicated volunteers like Aria, Ishaan, Susan,Cindy, Fatimatou, Aria, Suzanne and the Khula Aasmaan team.
  • Health  workshops: The girls attended workshops on concentration building through yoga,basic self defence techniques conducted by Aria, Mr. Lazarus John Mascarenhas, Mr. Rajendra Nair.
  • Recreational excursions: Girls visited the Symphony Orchestra of India workshop and open rehearsal at NCPA.
  • Monthly meetings: Women learned about Hepatitis and anger management in the monthly meetings, conducted by Ms. Dinu Shibu Matthew and Ms. Meena D' Souza.
  • Child's Future Sessions: The effects of  life stressors, tobacco consumption and strained relationships on children were discussed with the mothers of Udaan night shelter girls.

                     Financial literacy workshop
  • Financial Literacy workshop: Women learned about the importance of saving money,opening bank accounts, types of bank accounts and different interest rates through the financial literacy workshop conducted  by Grassroot Solutions.

                       Celebrating fraternal bonds
  • Recreational excursions: The toddlers enjoyed outings to the Funky Monkeys play area, an outdoor games session (ball games, musical games, memory games, hockey, flying discs), indoor games (musical chairs, feely bags, puzzles) and a garden visit.
  • Art and craft activities: The tiny tots enjoyed rakhi-making, cake-baking, pot-painting, mask-making, collage making, thumb printing and plantation.
  • Suzanne Millar, Volunteer from Australia: Having spent many many days there over the past three months, I am astounded at the depth and breadth of the programme and the love, care and opportunities offered to the girls.
  • Fatimatou Diallo, Intern from Columbia : I’m certain that AAWC’s strong and infectious determination can bring about a real change for the betterment of this community. Anybody who collaborates with AAWC once leaves only to come back again, and I’m no exception.
