Festive Celebrations: This season we celebrated Navratri, Diwali, Children’s Day and Christmas with devotion and festive fervor.  

Accolades:  AAWC was privileged to get selected by FunOKPlease as partner for fund-raising for the book launch event of “Brown like Dosas, Samosas and Sticky Chikki.” FunOKPlease is a Mumbai based publisher of children’s books in English. Udaan beneficiaries gave an amazing performance on “Mujhe kya Bechega Rupaiyya”

      Christmas Celebration at FR center 
Capacity Building: The Communication and Fundraising Managers networked with partners, peers, technologists, diplomats, activists and experts and discussed about challenges in fundraising and communications in workshops conducted by Peace Tech Exchange and Global Giving Current Partner. The staff also attended a workshop organized by AAWC on ITPA on various definitions and provisions in the existing Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act of 1956 and proposed amendments to it.

Monthly medical check-ups: Umeed, Umang, and Udaan members were examined by medical teams from Reliance Foundation and Decimal Foundation and administered medicines, de-worming and Vitamins as per necessity.

Career guidance: Computer classes in partnership with Vedanta Foundation are started twice a week and the girls are catching up with tremendous enthusiasm.

Mentoring: In collaboration with Raindancer, Project Lighthouse continues and Dog therapy session for the girls in the Night Shelter is started.

Edutainment Workshops: The girls attended a workshop on creative writing by Ms. Seher which probed them to think beyond the regular boundaries and put their ideas on paper in creative ways. The Ooperai Foundation (Panama) held a drawing analysis session with the girls and in creative ways allowed the girls to explore the idea of their favorite place.

Self Defense Work-shops: A self defense training session was held for the Udaan girls to teach them the basic defense tactics to protect themselves from unwanted attention. The session was taken by Mr. Lazarus Mascarenhas followed by a motivational lecture by Mr. Rajendran Nair.

Recreational-excursions: Udaan girls participated in the Concern India Foundation sports day where 26 NGOs participated in this event at Priyadarshini Park. Girls visited Salam Bombay on 18th Oct 2014 for Diwali celebration
 
Monthly meetings: YUVA conducted a confidence building session with the women. Spanish Youth Group volunteers organized games for the women for recreation.

Child’s Future Planning Sessions with mothers: The topics covered were: finance, saving, health and hygiene, healthy cooking habits and education, POCSO act, usage of drugs and alcohol, spending quality time with the children, child sexual abuse, etc. An awareness session was conducted by Smita Zankar from IAPA on the importance of securing a safe future for children at risk.

Financial Literacy Workshop: help the women understand the importance of opening a bank account, saving money regularly, basic financial literacy and awareness about Jan Dhan Yojna.

Vocational Trainings: Renu Kapoor from IIJ (Indian Institute of Jewellery) and Nalini from Nalini and Yasmin Salon talked about alternative career opportunities. AAWC, in collaboration with Vedanta Foundation, will be starting a beautician course for 3 months for which 30 women have registered.

 
Recreational Excursions: The toddlers enjoyed outings to the Byculla Zoo and the Girgaon Chowpatty and celebrated Sports Day. They also enjoyed ‘Jungle Book’ and ‘Chillar Party’ movie screenings.

Art & Craft Activities: The tiny tots enjoyed diya-painting, mask-making, collage making, colorful butterflies and hand printing activity

Therapy Sessions: Dog therapy sessions facilitated by Animal Angels Foundation started in the month of November with the aim to bring about behavior assessment and modification through animal supported therapy.
Beneficiaries-    
Umeed: “Thank You for helping me open my bank account and preparing my PAN Card. Now my hard earned money will not be stolen and it will be safe. I will be able to use it whenever I need”
 
Night shelter beneficiary’s mother: “Since I have admitted my daughter to AAWC night shelter, I am no longer worried about my daughter’s safety. She has become so disciplined and productive because of the things she learns from the teachers in AAWC.”
 
Volunteer-
 Kimberly: “It’s always exciting to see what I can teach the girls, but it’s even more exciting to see what they teach each other!  The girls inspire me so much with their excitement and creativity.”
 
Partner- 
CERES Group Volunteers: “We feel honored to visit AAWC every year. We are impressed with the wonderful projects run here for different target groups and try to spread a word about AAWC back at our country. The best thing was to see the kids trying to teach Hindi to our volunteers in turn of learning English! They had bonded so well.  We will continue coming in future”.
