I want to extend my personal gratitude to Vanessa and all of the people involved in Oktoberfest. This was the perfect use for the property and our new pavilion, our new smokers, and the people of the congregation. It was wonderful that so many people had such a good time.

As you all know, we are in the opening stages of a campaign to raise money to reduce our debt. I wish we were doing it to start the next phase of the master plan, but this is the proper next step to secure our future of a strong and focused church. We will not use the funds that you pledge for any purpose other than debt reduction. If we reduce the debt sufficiently, we will be able to move forward with our plan secure in the knowledge that we are truly good stewards.

Please read the material you received during the last two Sundays. Please prayerfully consider what you can pledge to allow us to continue to move forward.

—Tim Draney, President, AGLC Council
Mission Freedom Rallies will be held this Thursday evening, Saturday morning, and Sunday after worship. At these sessions you will learn about the vision and plans for Abiding Grace's Mission Freedom Fund Appeal, your important role in supporting these ministry efforts, and what the scriptures say about our response to Christ's invitation to grow in our response to his Grace.
The BRAVE Special Olympics Banquet at Abiding Grace is this Sunday, November 10. Volunteers are needed to serve the athletes and their families. Helpers are asked to arrive at 4:30 p.m. dressed in your finest Hawaiian shirts, skirts, or muumuus. Volunteers will decorate, prep the food line, and share a meal of Jerry Court’s famous brisket prior to guests 6:00 arrival. Please sign up at the Outreach kiosk to help with the banquet. For more information, contact Kim Haggerty.
Christmas Cantata. Would you like to sing in the Christmas Cantata on December 8? Join us on Saturday, November 16, for a Cantata Retreat as we learn the music and have a picnic afterwards at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens! For more information, please contact Vanessa this week.
Eighth grade lock-in. An intensive Confirmation lock-in, including vocabulary and the spiritual gift inventory, will be held beginning at 8:00 p.m. this Friday, November 8.
Support the youth! You can support the youth's summer mission trip by ordering a smoked turkey from the "Abiding Dudes" for Thanksgiving! Options are either a turkey breast (7-9 pounds) for a suggested donation of $25 or a whole turkey (12-14 pounds) for $50. Sign up by calling or texting Jerry Court. The order deadline is Tuesday, November 19, and pickup must be on Sunday, November 24, after worship.
Thanksgiving Feast. Our friends at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Irving have invited us again to help with their Community Thanksgiving Feast on Saturday November 23. Serving is 11:00 a.m. to  2:00 p.m. with setup at 10:30 a.m. There are also opportunities to help prep food on Thursday and Friday, November 21–22. Please sign up at the Outreach kiosk. For questions, please contact Nick or Tonya Tomlin.
Fish and Loaves Pantry. Our Good Shepherd friends also have asked for our assistance in stocking their pantry for the upcoming holiday season. To help, pick up a basket and pantry list at the Outreach kiosk beginning this Sunday. Please do not feel obligate to everything on the list—anything you bring will be appreciated more than you know! Return the baskets by Wednesday evening, November 20. We also need a delivery crew for Thursday, November 21, at 10:00 a.m. to bring the harvest to the Pantry. Thank you! For questions, please contact Nick or Tonya Tomlin.
Pie Sunday is November 24. Please bring your favorite pie to share as we kick off Thanksgiving week with pie at 10:00 a.m. between services. There is no Sunday School that day.
PurpleStride DFW. Team Piper is participating in PurpleStride DFW this Saturday, November 9, to support the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. This organization is making significant strides to change the course of pancreatic cancer and patient outcomes. Watching Curtis battle this horrible disease was heart wrenching. Please consider donating online to the team or joining us at the walk.
Rick Steves, travel writer, TV host, and active ELCA lay person, will be a keynote speaker during the Perkins Fall Convocation at SMU next week on November 11-12. There is a Monday-evening-only option for $15 per ticket to hear Steves present on the topic, “Travel as a Spiritual Act.” Register online.
