Supper 4:6. This fall your Fellowship Committee is rebooting Supper 4:6, our dinner groups for six, seven, or eight people. Couples or singles can sign up. Groups of 6-8 members will be formed that meet several times in homes to share dinner (you can join in whether or not you wish to host a dinner). It's a great way to get to know more people in the congregation, especially now that we have two services. Please sign up at the Fellowship Kiosk by September 23, and we'll notify the groups either by September 30 or by the Harvest Picnic (October 7, and yes, this is a shameless plug). If you have any questions, please contact Carol Court.
Grace Café. September means yearly programming begins, including Grace Café. We have been incredibly blessed to hold monthly dinners at the home of Jesse Grimmer and Laura Hopkins to raise money for our youth programs. The youth especially enjoy the opportunity to learn new skills in the kitchen and the true meaning of having a servant's heart. This year we need your help. Due to some career changes, Jesse and Laura will be moving to Fort Worth. While they are still graciously continuing on with their tradition of preparing and serving these amazing dinners, we are in search of people who can host one or more dinners at their home. The plan is to hold dinners on September 15, October 13, November 10, December 8, January 12, February 9, March 9, April 13, and May 11 if there are enough host homes. Please note that host homes should be able to accommodate 8-10 dinner guests, as well as youth participants to help prepare/serve the meals, and be available from 3-9 p.m. If you're interested or have questions please contact Taylor.
The 12th Annual Men's Group Dove Hunt will be September 14-16. Abiding Grace Men's Group and Calvary Men's Group will be meeting in Roscoe, Texas. This event is for all men 16 years old and above, and the cost is only $40 which covers food. We hunt four times: Friday evening, twice on Saturday, and once on Sunday. You can attend whatever fits your schedule. It is a great weekend to enjoy the outdoors and fellowship. Some men come out and do not hunt, coming for the enjoyment and camaraderie. An email was sent to all men with details. Please let Mark Etheredge or Jerry Court know if you will be attending since they need a head count soon.
Blessing of the backpacks. This Sunday, August 26, please bring your school backpack to church to receive a blessing for the start of the new school year.
Sunday School help! With September right around the corner, we are planning this year of Sunday School and need your help. We practice "team teaching," so the schedule is a little more flexible. All of the curriculum is provided for teachers. If you are interested in teaching or being a substitute, please let Taylor know. We also are in need of an adult Sunday School teacher at 9:15 a.m. beginning September 9. If you can help, please contact Kenn Mingus.
High School Hangout. Sunday nights are for the high schoolers! This Sunday, August 26, help us kick off the new school year with a fun evening at Main Event in Grapevine. Meet us there at 5:30 p.m. for pizza, bowling, and games! Let Taylor know if you plan on attending.
Cooking oil for GRACE. Please don't forget our commitment of cooking oil (any type, 48 oz. bottles) for the GRACE Food Pantry. Recently, the AGLC donation of 4 bottles was immediately claimed by the families waiting in line to check out—no one else got oil that week. We are the only organization with an ongoing commitment to provide cooking oil. Thank you for your continued support.
Church of the Damascus Road Golf Invitational. Hit the links to benefit the Church of Damascus Road. A fund-raising golf event will be held on Monday, September 14. Registration is at noon with golf beginning at 1:00 p.m. Cost is $75 per person, and there are sponsorship opportunities. Please contact Tim Draney or Pastor Nick if interested
Cooking for Christ Cook-Off. Hosted by Thrivent Financial, the fifth annual cook-off will take place Saturday, October 6, from 10:00–3:00 at the Briarwood Retreat Center in Argyle. Cooking starts on Friday (October 5) at 3:00 p.m. A team from Abiding Grace will be competing, and tickets are available for $10 to sample the BBQ from the teams.
