Hello Abiding Grace. I wanted to introduce myself briefly and say thank you for calling me to my new church home. I’m sure we are going to have a great spiritual/faith journey together. My name is Gary Knutson. I have been a Director of Youth and Family Ministries for the last 16 years in Colorado. I want to bring my passion for youth/families here to Abiding Grace and grow our wonderful ministries already in place. I ask God continually why Youth/Family Ministries? He still has not answered me. (Ha Ha). I think I know, but not quite sure, that my passion comes from life experiences and growing up in a dysfunctional (not healthy) family. I also have a passion for family Christian counseling. Relationships are the foundation of what Jesus taught us throughout the New Testament and his life here on earth. I try to model the relationship part of his ministry.

So here some of my thoughts on youth ministry
  1. Everyone has a part in youth ministry in the church, yes, I said everyone!
  2. Youth Ministry is relational and guess what? All ministry is relational!
  3. Youth Ministry keeps you young! (at heart).
  4. If I learn your name, you’ll eventually become part of youth ministry. (Don’t try to hide from me)
  5. Youth Mission trips are the very foundation of raising a servant heart!
Helen (my wife) and I have been married for 18 years (that’s 52 years in real married life), LOL! We have 5 children between us, 3 sons and 2 daughters. We currently have 4 grandchildren, our kids live in Texas, Colorado, and Montana. My passions in life are youth, college sports, ok all sports, and golf.

I have some very big shoes to fill in replacing Taylor and I look forward to walking along side every one of you in our Faith/Spiritual journeys.

“Incarnational Relationship’s are it.” We are better together!

Vacation Bible School registration is open! Briarwood will be holding VBS at Abiding Grace on July 15-19 for youth ages 5-10, and we want you to be there. Registration forms are available online, or can be picked up at the Fellowship kiosk in church. Please sign up this week! Older youth are encouraged to be Junior Counselors—please talk with Taylor or Gary for more information.
Congregational meeting. Last Sunday our June meeting was held. The FY 2020 budget was approved, we elected new Council members, and we met our new Directory of Family Ministries, Gary Knutson, and his wife Helen. Welcome to Abiding Grace, Gary and Helen! The new Council then met briefly. They elected the new President (Tim Draney) and Vice President (Alison Viktorin) and made committee liaison assignments.
Feed Our Kids had another successful and rewarding week with AGLC volunteers putting in 187 hours and providing 389 meals! When asking some of our youth why they volunteer for Feed Our Kids, here are their responses:
  • Addison Bergstrom: "I like how we helped kids locally. It made me realize how lucky I am to have three meals a day."
  • Andrew Bergstrom: "I liked working with friends I see in Sunday School and helping others. I had a lot of fun!"
  • Madison Anderson: "I liked helping kids who are in more need than me."
  • Will Canole: "I liked helping the kids. They were so cute. I liked how happy they were when they got their lunch."
  • Sammie Lane: "I love Feed Our Kids because I want to put smiles on little kids faces because they don’t always have this food. I really love watching them be happy when they get lunch."
  • Sophie Lane: "I liked how much they appreciated lunch. I brought 10 friends over 5 days and this was an easy way to get my friends to come to church with me. We had tons of fun and helped the kids."
Stephen Ministry is an important Member Care and Outreach of Abiding Grace. If you have ever thought you would like to be a Stephen Minister, a new training class will begin on September 16. There will be an information meeting after church on July 21 to answer any questions you may have about becoming a Stephen Minister. Anyone interested is invited to this brief meeting.
The Last Mile—cooking oil for the GRACE Food Pantry. Thanks to all who have brought cooking oil for the Pantry. So far this month, we have received 152 bottles of oil (48 oz., any type). The goal is 225 for the month of June, and we still have one Sunday to go. The folks at Abiding Grace have always been generous and there is no reason why we can’t reach that goal. Thank you again for all your support
Four of our youth attended Confirmation Camp at Sky Ranch in Colorado earlier this month. With them were Taylor and our new Director of Family Ministries, Gary Knutson. Everyone reports having a great time! More pictures are available online.
Property Committee Chair. The Property Committee is in need of a new chairperson. The chair leads and organizes with the committee to maintain our facility:
  • Oversee the landscaping company for maintenance of the property and sprinkler system
  • Coordinate building repairs by volunteers or hired repair companies
  • With the committee, organize work projects for fall, spring, and holidays
  • Chair committee meetings on a monthly basis
  • Track requests for improvement and betterment of the property
  • Submit and monitor property budget
If you are interested or have questions, please contact Tim Draney or Pastor Nick. Thanks.
The annual Men's Group Dove Hunt will be September 13-15. Our men's group together with Calvary's will be meeting in Roscoe, Texas. This event is for all men 16 years old and above. We hunt four times: Friday evening, twice on Saturday, and once on Sunday. You can attend whatever fits your schedule. It is a great weekend to enjoy the outdoors and fellowship. Some men come out and do not even hunt, coming for the enjoyment and camaraderie. Please contact Mark Etheredge or Jerry Court for questions and to sign up.
