Discussion session. Please join Pastor Nick for a presentation regarding the ELCA Sanctuary Church statement on Wednesday, September 4, at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Following a brief presentation, Pastor Nick will do his best to answer your questions and lead the group through a discussion.
Rally Day is right around the corner on Sunday, September 8, at 10:00 a.m. This will be a fun-filled day of activities to get ready for the new Sunday School term. This year's theme is "Better Together": one body, many parts, and how all of us are important to ministry.
High School youth group starts on Tuesday, September 10. We will meet in the youth room from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Please join us for our kick off as we discuss different topics that effect our daily lives. We will also start to plan our year-long schedule, which includes serving in our community and our 2020 mission trip to Panama City/Mexico beach, areas that were devastated by Hurricane Michael last year. Come out and join us for some great fellowship and planning.
Confirmation registration concludes this Wednesday, August 28, at 6:30 p.m. Our new Confirmation ministry is "Here We Stand" from Augsburg Fortress, and Confirmation will start on Wednesday, September 11, at 6:30 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact Gary.
Faith Stepping Stones Ministry has begun. Thanks to all the students, teachers, and administrators, who came up to be blessed for the new school year. This was our kick off to Faith Stepping Stones, a ministry where we celebrate and bless events in the lives of our members throughout the year. Upcoming activities include
  • First Bible Classes will be held on Sunday, October 13 and 20, from 12:15 to 2:30 p.m. We will learn how to use the Bible and all the exciting things we didn’t know (a parent is required to attend with each child). We will then celebrate the youth getting their Bibles on Reformation Sunday, October 27, at the 11:00 a.m. service.
  • Baptism classes will start soon. If you have a child that has not been baptized, please contact Gary to participate in the class or for more information.
  • First Communion classes will be held in March. Please look for further information on these classes in the new year.
Community Breakfast! Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Irving is beginning an outreach of offering breakfast to neighbors monthly, and they are inviting Abiding Grace to partner with them. On the fourth Saturday of the month, we'll gather to cook breakfast and share it with our neighbors. Help is needed to gather the food, cooking, cleaning up, and eating with our guests. This Sunday Gary Knutson, our Director of Youth and Family Ministries, will deliver the message. Watch this video for an introduction.
The annual Men's Group Dove Hunt will be September 13-15. Our men's group together with Calvary's will be meeting in Roscoe, Texas. This event is for all men 16 years old and above. We hunt four times: Friday evening, twice on Saturday, and once on Sunday. You can attend whatever fits your schedule. It is a great weekend to enjoy the outdoors and fellowship. Some men come out and do not even hunt, coming for the enjoyment and camaraderie. Cost is $40. Please contact Mark Etheredge or Jerry Court for questions and to sign up (please sign up by this Sunday, September 1).
AFFL. Football season is here. If you're interested in being part of the AGLC Fantasy Football League, please sign up at church this Sunday. The draft will be held in the church conference room on Tuesday, September 3, at 7:00 p.m. (new date).
Church of the Damascus Road Golf Invitational. Hit the links to benefit the Church of Damascus Road, a ministry for the incarcerated led by Dan Lund. A fund-raising golf event will be held on Monday, September 9, at The Golf Club Fossil Creek in Fort Worth. Check in is at noon with a group start at 1:00 p.m. A registration form is available to download. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Nick.
Briarwood Golf Outing. A golf day benefiting the Briarwood Retreat Center will be held on Friday, September 13, at Bridlewood Golf Club in Flower Mound. Registration and breakfast are at 7:00 a.m., golf begins at 8:30, and lunch and awards follow. Individual and company sponsorship are available. Cost is $110 and you can register online.
