Harvest Picnic. Sunday, October 7, is the date for the annual Harvest Picnic. Immediately following the 11:00 service, we'll provide grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, all the fixings, and drinks. The congregation is asked to bring the following according to your last names:
  • A - M: bring desserts
  • N - Z: bring sides and salads
We will also have a cake walk, and you are invited to contribute items for that favorite event. There will be games for all ages, indoors and out (weather permitting), so dress comfortably. Invite a friend or neighbor to join us for worship, food and fun! For questions, please ask Carol Court or Dee Rose.
Faith reflections. Through the month of October, we will be filming members who are willing to share their faith stories. If you would be willing to share a 60- to 90-second faith story, please sign up at the Worship kiosk. Filming will take place in the church office between services. Please contact Pastor Nick with any questions.
Needed: Youth Committee volunteers. Our church is growing and so is our Youth Program. If you have a desire to help our youth on their journey of faith, have fun ideas for activities, and want to foster a loving, caring environment for the next generation, please prayerfully consider joining us! College age members are welcome on the committee. Bonus: meetings are once a month after church and are not long. If interested please email Taylor.
GRACE cooking oil holiday push. Every year before Thanksgiving and Christmas, the GRACE Food Pantry distributes over 500 food baskets which include cooking oil. October is the month for our annual holiday push. The goal is 125 (48 oz.) bottles of oil. Watch for the poster in the narthex tracking our progress, and please help us reach our goal.
Photo directory. We will be putting together a photo directory for our members this fall. There are several ways to give your smiles. Karen Hurtado will be taking photographs after worship on Sundays. Family members who are not members are welcome in the photo. Karen can also take a photo of any printed picture you wish to use. You can also email a picture (square, 300x300) to photo@abidinggracedfw.org. Thank you.
New Member Sunday, October 21. Joining our church family only requires filling out a simple New Member Form available at church or online, but we would like to make a formal welcome to all new members at worship on October 21. That morning at 10:00 a.m., Pastor Nick will meet with new members in the church office building to help everyone get to know each other and learn more about Abiding Grace. There will be a luncheon at noon, too. If you would like to join please contact the church office and we will happily add you to the celebration!
Youth Sunday. This Sunday we will have a Youth led worship service at 11:00 a.m., and Abiding Grace youth member Samantha Medley will be preaching at both services.
Cooking for Christ 2018. Hosted by Thrivent Financial, the fifth annual Cooking for Christ Cook-Off is Saturday, October 6, 10:00–3:00 at the Briarwood Retreat Center in Argyle. Tickets are $10 and can be ordered online. If we buy at least 25 tickets Abiding Grace will receive $20/ticket from Thrivent to support our missions—so please come! A team from Abiding Grace will be competing (please see Jerry Court to sign up for the cooking team).
Adult Sunday School this week. This week the adult Sunday School will meet in the sanctuary. The group will be taking an in-depth look at other denominations. We are in need of an adult Sunday School teacher going forward (curriculum provided). If you can help, please contact Kenn Mingus.
Thank you to our September volunteers at the Morris Foundation Women and Children's Center for our September Story Time. This month's themes were friendship and fall. If you would like to volunteer to read stories aloud to children and/or help with arts and crafts activity afterwards, please sign up for any future Story Time dates: October 13, November 10, or December 8. This ministry opportunity is open to people of all ages. If you have any questions, please see Lori Anderson.
Team Piper is stepping up again this year to honor Curtis’ memory and Wage Hope at PurpleStride, the walk to end pancreatic cancer. PurpleStride supports the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network which is making significant strides to change patient outcomes.
