Oktoberfest. Come celebrate Reformation this weekend with us on Friday and Sunday, October 25-27! Sunday's festivities begin at noon. There will be brisket and brats, live 70's and 80's rock by The 8tracks, a bounce house, face painting, pumpkin decorating, and more! Tickets for Sunday are a suggested donation of $20 per person or $50 per family of three or more and include a full meal. Come for a great time!
Halloween party this Friday! Our Oktoberfest weekend begins at the church this Friday, October 25, with a Halloween party from 6:30–8:00 p.m. Activities include trunk-or-treat, game booths, and a haunted house. There will be prizes for the top three costumes and best decorated trunk-or-treat car or truck. If you plan to attend or enter your vehicle in the trunk-or-treat competition (we need more!), please let Gary know. Plan to join us for fun and fellowship!
What sets Lutherans apart? Have you ever driven past a Baptist church, or a Methodist church, or an Anglican church and asked, “how are we Lutherans different from them?” This Wednesday evening, Pastor Nick continues a new adult confirmation class that explains what sets Lutherans apart, theologically, from other denominations. All are welcome, and all questions are welcome. We meet in the Fellowship Room at 7:15 p.m.
Cake walk donations. We are in need of more cupcakes, cakes, and brownies for the cake walk at this Friday's Halloween party (wrap cookies in dozens and cupcakes in half-dozens). Please email Gary if you can help, telling what you'll bring. Thanks!
Cooking oil for GRACE—update: as of last Sunday, October 20, we have received 128 bottles of cooking oil for the GRACE Food Pantry October rush. Thanks! There is one more Sunday to reach our goal of 200. Please consider picking up a bottle or two of oil (48 oz. bottles, any variety) and bringing them to church this Sunday.
Mission Freedom Campaign background. Watch this short video from last Sunday for background on our Mission Freedom Campaign.
Church work day. There will be a church work day on Saturday, November 2. We will begin at 2:00 p.m. and work during the afternoon. Activities potentially include staining decks; putting up Christmas lights; and cleaning exteriors, gutters, and carpets. Food and drinks will be provided. Individuals should wear personal protective equipment and clothing as deemed necessary, including gloves, eye protection, and closed-toed shoes. Please sign up online if you plan to come. Thank you for your participation!
The annual BRAVE Special Olympics Banquet at Abiding Grace is Sunday, November 10. Volunteers are needed to serve the athletes and their families (if you’re unable to volunteer consider providing a cake for dessert). Helpers are asked to arrive at 4:30 p.m. dressed in your finest Hawaiian shirts, skirts, or muumuus. Volunteers will decorate, prep the food line, and share a meal of Jerry Court’s famous brisket prior to guests 6:00 arrival.

The BRAVE provides continued sports activity at a local, state, and national level for young adult athletes. More importantly, it offers community. Together they learn, they laugh, they disagree, and they support each other. Recent activities include golf, bocce ball, and bowling (please consider sharing your skills by volunteering to assist or coach).

Please sign up at the Outreach kiosk to help with the banquet. For more information, contact Kim Haggerty.
Community breakfast. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Irving offers breakfast to its neighbors the fourth Saturday of each month. If you wish to help for the next breakfast this Saturday, October 26, by providing food, serving, or cleaning up, please sign up online.
PurpleStride DFW. Team Piper is participating in PurpleStride DFW on Saturday, November 9, to support the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. This organization is making significant strides to change the course of pancreatic cancer and patient outcomes. Watching Curtis battle this horrible disease was heart wrenching. Please consider donating online to the team or joining us at the walk.
Keep in prayer. Please keep the following people in your prayers: Sandy, Jeff, Arty, Dawn, Sarah, Tracy, Mona, Mimi, Shirley, Kaye, Davey, Mike, Arthur, Elenor, Charles, Jim, Elaine, David, Susan, Linda, Rich, Corbin, Chris, Tommy, Lindsey, Zach, Betty, Chris and Kim, Ken, Amy, LaRue, Dusty, Debbie, Charles, Blake family, Jenni, Roger, Finn, Micah, Carl, Lorraine, Nolan, and Joan.
