Happy New Year!

Without a doubt, our biggest moment of 2016 was launching Arq to help people - anyone! - connect with Jewish life and culture in a more relevant, inclusive, and convenient way.

In 2017, we'll bring you new content here and on our website (have you checked out the #myjudaica series yet?), host more gatherings (from a women-only moon circle to a summer camp-inspired retreat weekend for grownups), and share more beautiful products with you (never dread an off-registry gift of Judaica again!).

We want to hear from you along the way! If you've got ideas, questions, are interested in collaborating, or just want to say hi, please get in touch

❤️,
Danya

The Yiddish word for orgasm. The genealogy of the Jewish deli and deli-plomacy. The adorable reason you can set your alert sound to "hummus" on Slack. The sad, dwindling flame of the Catskills’ once-thriving resort community. How Nazi drug abuse steered the course of history. "Rent-a-Jew" is an actual thing in Germany. Three ageless beauties, crème de la crème of Moscow’s Jewish intelligentsia. A moving tribute to Franz Kafka and a story of fate and miracles. A personal library in which notable soft porn titles appeared among breakout literature by Jews. Zuckerberg gets religion.

It's time to reclaim religion. Single, pregnant, and a rabbi. The making of Wet Hot American Summer. Arabs and Jews dance together in a Muslim-majority monarchy whose king has sanctioned celebrations of Hanukkah. "No Woman, No Cry" followed by a theological discussion - the most Israeli thing ever?

One celeb invited to perform at Trump's inauguration will only participate if she can sing "Strange Fruit," the poem against lynching written by a Jewish schoolteacher and set to music by Billie Holiday. Broadway's Big Jewish Musical.

On a perfectly sunny summer day (remember those, east coast?), we hung out with Anthonia Akitunde, founder of mater mea, a website that celebrates black women at the intersection of motherhood and career. We talked about Kansas City barbecue, what it’s like growing up with immigrant parents, coming into your own, inclusivity (or lack thereof) in the Jewish community, and how good gefilte fish is.
