Ana Sumner - Sew Unique Art
Hues of Summer

"Best View"

Hues of Summer
A canopy of olive green
amidst the blue-green sky
as a meadow of flowers blooms,
wild in multi colors,
along a golden emerald field
beyond what the eye can see
Oh, how lovely are the warm,
 full days of summer
by Ana Sumner
Summer is my favorite time of year. I can never get enough of the warmth of the sun on my skin. It inspires art and poetry. I hope you enjoy the commission piece above, "Best View," I just finished it  and it is happy at its new home.
   Artist's Notes
I have been in a whirlwind of creating art, teaching, and meeting wonderful, creative people this summer.  I welcome all who are new to my newsletter and my art. And once again, thank you everyone who has been following me on this journey, for making my art successful by loving it, and wanting to learn and be creative. Below are just a few of the things that have made my summer fun and creative.
  • In June, I taught at the Asheville Quilt Guild where 18 ladies explored their creative spirits in creating an artful Crazy Quilt. We had such a lovely time!
  • In July, I taught a couple of classes at the Cary Arts Center in Cary. I had several students in both classes, and new things were learned, old things remembered, and lots of creativity explored. In the Underwater Sea class, we learned to create a greeting card with reef fish, and more.
  • August is finding me busy creating art and teaching as well. I have the opportunity to teach in Greenville, SC, at the Innova Longarm Network South Carolina showroom. I will be teaching my Artful Crazy Quilt and the Ocean Reef Workshop toward the end of the month.  I hope you can participate in one of these classes. See class information below.
  • I am sorry to say that after four years of being at the Lazy Daze festival, I will not be participating this year. It was a very difficult decision not to be a part, especially since I enjoy seeing so many of you during the event, but I was not able to create enough art for a two-day festival and fulfill the teaching requests I am receiving. I do hope I will be able to take part next year.
  • Waverly Artists Group Studio and Gallery, at Waverly Place in Cary, (, is where you will find all my new creations. If you are in the area, come by and see them!
  • This fall, I will be teaching at the Durham Art Council. Please see my website for more information:
  • In the winter of 2017, I will be teaching how to create an Artful Landscape Quilt or you can make it into an art piece either way.  It will be at the Innova Longarm Network Retreat "Birds of a Feather 2017" in Newport News Virgina Registration begins today!

Artist's Tip

Art is created for the purpose of being shared with others. It is an expression of who we are inside, and when it comes out, it should not be judged by oneself or others. We can always challenge ourselves to be better at it, for it has many stages of growth and there is never one stage at which you can say, "I have arrived at its perfection," no such stage exists. It just a pure unfolding of the artist and the art throughout life. So do not be afraid to share your creative expression, for in doing so you may spark creative expression in someone else.
