"Hiser's Halloween"
Imagine That!

"Imagine That,"  are the word that I said, after finishing this 32x42 commissioned piece for the Hiser's of Cary NC, who have been giving a home to my art since 2012.

Doing this commission piece was a challenge, due to the size. It took me a year from designing it to full completion.  People always ask how many hours does it take to complete a piece.  In this one I think I have roughly 1500 hours.  It has multiple layers of fibers on it, and along the way I learned some new techniques.

I was given some very basic guidelines that I needed to include in the piece, but the rest depended on my imagination and creativity, which made it a joy to create. I did draw a sketch at the beginning, mainly to determine size ratios. Next, I began to create the components.  It is like a puzzle, except you have to create the pieces first, before you can put it together.   It was not until the last week of it's completion did I know how it was going to come together.  I had to have a lot of faith in my abilities that it would, but their was a time or two that doubt try to creep in," saying this is not going to work."  I am sure glad I didn't listen to it, and kept pressing on, rearranging things here or there until it all fell into place.

I am grateful for the Mr. and Mrs Hiser allowing me to exhibit" Hiser's Halloween" in the upcoming exhibiting "The Thread Whisperers: Fabricated Structures" that I am a participant in at Page Walker Art & History Center which opens August 7th, 2018. You are invited to the Reception on August 17th!  Also, I will be teaching a couple of class while in town.
