Happy Birthday!!!- April 2016

This is something new we are adding to our newsletter so we look forward to your response. We are going to start posting your pet's birthday photos! So, if you want to recognize your pet's birthday please send me a photo and its age. We want to keep it current so we are accepting birthday photos for pets whose birthdays will be in MAY. You can look for the photos to come out in the May newsletter that goes out usually the first week or so or June.

Our April birthday wishes go to Phantom who turned 7 on April 26th. Phantom is owned by the Lake family of Gales Ferry. Phantom is one special pup because he is also a therapy dog, visiting different nursing homes and libraries throughout the area. Thank you for all you do Phantom and we hope you had a great birthday!

We receive many of the items needed for the Ledyard Animal Control and to support C.H.A.I.N.'s projects from our Amazon Wish List  If you prefer to shop online you can always purchase through the Amazon Wish List and the products will come directly to us.

Help the Ledyard Animal Control Every Time You Walk Your Dog!.

If you have an Android or iPhone you can download the app that will set this up on your phone. Ledyard Animal Control has been added to the list of shelters for WoofTrax and Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. is available through ResQwalk,

For Wooftrax: After you download the app onto your phone, take the phone with you when you walk your dog(s). Simply press the “start” button and the app will keep track of all your walks. For every mile you walk, a donation is made to the animal shelter of your choice by wooftrax. Check them out here:

http://WoofTrax.com/

Then for ResQwalk: Each week ResQwalk announces a donation pool and in order for a rescue to receive donations from the pool, its supporters simply need to check-in to the app when they go for a walk.

Earning donations from ResQwalk is simple. All you need to do is have your supporters download the app and select your group as the beneficiary for their walk.

Some of you may not be aware of our C.H.A.I.N. Lost Pet Squad. It's something we started not long after the group formed. It is simply a project made up of volunteers. When I get news of a pet missing in our community, I start the ball rolling by putting it on our Ledyard Lost and Found Pets Page and the Ledyard Animal Control Facebook page. From my list of volunteers, I give them a shout out on Facebook or text them by phone to see if they are around and can go drive through the neighborhood to see if they get a sighting of the pet, notify their neighbors, and if needed, help the owner make and/or put up posters, flyers, etc. to get the word out.

Also, if you have not liked our Lost and Found Pets Page please do. I also add area pets missing as I realize many of you may work, travel, or have family and friends in those areas.

Comments From C.H.A.I.N......

April was a successful month for C.H.A.I.N. We met all of our goals for our Ledyard Police Department K-9 Unit Fundraiser. The heat alarm for the K-9 Cruiser is now ordered and will be installed by Communications Plus when it arrives.

This was one of our biggest fundraisers, raising right at $4000 total. The funds purchased an new bullet/stab proof vest for the K-9 Officer Lambeau and a heat alarm for the K-9 vehicle. We are just so proud of our community for all of their donations and hard work they put in to make this a success. We also want to thank Village Market in Ledyard for allowing us to put on a bake sale at their location and Pet Supplies Plus in Groton for allowing us to set up a table in their store.

Thank you to all who turned out for the Ledyard Animal Control Appreciation Day and worked so hard to clean up the grounds and plant all of the pretty flowers. If you have not had a chance to see it, the ACO's will gladly show you around so stop by anytime.

In April, C.H.A.I.N. was able to cover the costs to spay and neuter 3 feral cat and also give them a Rabies vaccination. In addition, 5 kittens were pulled from a colony with 3 of them being adopted so far.

Join us on May 21st at the North Stonington Fairgrounds. We will have a table at the Mystic Lions Canine's and Crafts event from 10-4pm.

Our mission is the animals and we will continue to do all we can to make sure those that find their way to the shelter have all they need till a home can be found for them. With your help we will keep growing and our outreach will spread to more that need us.Thank you to all the individuals and businesses that give to us so that we can have what the animals need. Without all of you we would be nothing so all my applause, my thanks, and my sincere gratitude goes to all of you.

Please stay in touch with us on Facebook. We'd love to hear your questions, see pictures of your pets, and learn what things you would like to happen with Ledyard C.H.A.I.N.This group is for you so your input and participation is needed and wanted. Tell your friends that if they want to receive these newsletters in their emails to please sign up through Facebook or our Website.

Our fundraiser for the Ledyard Police Department K-9 Unit met its goal thanks to all of our generous residents. The heat alarm is now on order and is expected to arrive in a couple of weeks. We are humbled and proud to be able to do this for our Ledyard Police K-9 Unit. Thank you so much to all that gave, who donated your time at events, baked cookies and cakes for our bake sale, and just rooted us on to make this happen. We have some very special people out there who not only support C.H.A.I.N. but more importantly support our police force and K-9 unit.

Ledyard Animal Control Appreciation Day

Thank you to all who came to help spruce up the shelter for the Ledyard Animal Control Appreciation Day! Weeds were pulled up, flowers were planted, and mulch was spread. The ACO's are so proud of how the grounds now look and invite everyone to come take a look. For anyone that missed it but still would like to contribute, there is still room for more flowers! Tours were also given of the facility so all could see what a great shelter we have for the pets in Ledyard and Gales Ferry.

Paying It Forward to Help The Pets

A huge thank you to Cub Scout Pack 16 Den 3 Wolves who held a collection drive at Village Market to collect pet foods and pet supplies for the Ledyard Animal Control! Thank you so much!

Join the Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. Crafters!

Are you crafty, artistic, like to create or build? Well we can use your help! Our crofters make goods that can be given to the pets at the shelter or offered to C.H.A.I.N. to offer in raffles or on our event tables to raise money for the organization. Items do not have to have a pet theme but it is fun when they do. Interested? Please get in touch!

On May 21st, C.H.A.I.N. will be attending an event called Canine's & Crafters hosted by the Mystic Lions. So, we are going to need lots of craft items for out table! If you would like to donate a handcrafted item for our table, I will need all donations by May 18th. Please call me at 860-287-3504 or you may email me at ledyardchain@gmail.com so arrangements can be made to pick up your donation.

Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. is especially low our supply of pet food. We prefer the smaller size bags of driy in the 3-7lb. range. These items can be dropped off in any of our donation boxes located at:

Grimm's Furry Tails - Ledyard
AA Lock & Key - Ledyard
Fireside Brickoven Creations -Gales Ferry
Ledyard Senior Center- Gales Ferry

Donate Your Car!

Own a clunker or need to get a car out of your yard? Then donate it to and let C.H.A.I.N. receive the proceeds from the sale. I have spent a lot of time researching and have signed Ledyard C.H.A.I.N with "Vehicles Donated to Any Charity" or V-Dac. I wanted a reputable company that would be both far to C.H.A.I.N. and the donor. V-Dac has an "A" rating with the BBB and was voted one of the top car donation programs by carsafety.net in 2015. So, if you need to part with your vehicle maybe this could be a possible route for you to take. For more details please check out their "How It Works" page at:

Fun Day At Pet Supplies Plus in Groton

Thank you to Pet Supplies Plus in Groton for allowing us to come set up a table in April. It was part of our fundraising for the Ledyard Police Department K-9 Unit. We had cupcakes and lots of fun handouts for the kids. Our raffle, with the K-9 T-Shirt and singing K-9 Dog, was a huge hit too!
