CT Emergency Animal Response Service

Pet Emergency Preparedness & First Aid Class

Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. will be hosting a special event for the Connecticut Emergency Animal Response Service (E.A.R.S). They will be coming to Gales Ferry to put on a Pet Preparedness and Pet First Aid Class for the public.

They will be covering how to make sure you're ready for disasters that may impact your pets. What you should always have on hand in case of emergencies. Tips for evacuating with your pets. And ways to create a Pet Preparedness Plan. They will discuss basic pet first aid, including how to address common pet emergencies such as toxic ingestion, injuries, choking, and others, as well as how to safely transport your pet to an animal hospital, and what resources are available in emergency situations.

The class is only $20.00 per person, which includes a handbook, materials, and a raffle ticket for your chance to win one of their popular EARS Pet First Aid Kits. Payment is due on the day of the event BUT YOU MUST REGISTER PRIOR TO THE EVENT. To register go to:

This will be a very cool class so you will not want to miss it. It is only open to 20 people so don't delay. For more details go to:

Any donations collected during the event will go towards their fundraiser for a new Animal Ambulance that will service the state of CT. If you will not be coming to the event but would like to donate to this cause go to their Go Fund Me page at:

Help the Ledyard Animal Control Every Time You Walk Your Dog!.
If you have an Android or iPhone you can download the app that will set this up on your phone. Ledyard Animal Control has been added to the list of shelters for WoofTrax and Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. is available through ResQwalk,

For Wooftrax: After you download the app onto your phone, take the phone with you when you walk your dog(s). Simply press the “start” button and the app will keep track of all your walks. For every mile you walk, a donation is made to the animal shelter of your choice by wooftrax. Check them out here:

Then for ResQwalk: Each week ResQwalk announces a donation pool and in order for a rescue to receive donations from the pool, its supporters simply need to check-in to the app when they go for a walk.

Earning donations from ResQwalk is simple. All you need to do is have your supporters download the app and select your group as the beneficiary for their walk.

Some of you may not be aware of our C.H.A.I.N. Lost Pet Squad. It's something we started not long after the group formed. It is simply a project made up of volunteers. When I get news of a pet missing in our community, I start the ball rolling by putting it on our Ledyard Lost and Found Pets Page and the Ledyard Animal Control Facebook page. From my list of volunteers, I give them a shout out on Facebook or text them by phone to see if they are around and can go drive through the neighborhood to see if they get a sighting of the pet, notify their neighbors, and if needed, help the owner make and/or put up posters, flyers, etc. to get the word out.

Also, if you have not liked our Lost and Found Pets Page please do. I also add area pets missing as I realize many of you may work, travel, or have family and friends in those areas.

Also be sure to check out our album of lost pets in Ledyard and Gales Ferry in case you happen to spot one of them. You can find it on Facebook at:

Comments From C.H.A.I.N......

February was a good month for C.H.A.I.N. Winter, which has been unusually mild this year, is almost behind us and we are thinking ahead for Spring. That saying, be sure to check out the article on the Ledyard Animal Control Appreciation Day where we will be sprucing up the grounds at the shelter. If you can help or would like to donate something to the cause please let us know!

We held our first community meeting on Feb. 20th and we hope to have another in a few months. It was nice to see some new and familiar faces. We so appreciate all who have an interest in helping us out.

Ledyard Police K-9 Lambeau's bullet proof vest has arrived. We want to give a special thank you to Sandy Rockett of Rockett Designs who put on the Ledyard Police patches to make the vest look official for the Ledyard Police Department.

Speaking of K-9 Lambeau, he will be at our K-9 Unit Fundraiser & Bake Sale at 1pm in the Village Market parking lot. So, please stop by to see him and his handler, Officer Kempke and give them your support!

April is going to be busy with our two events, the Ledyard K-9 Unit Fundraiser & Bake Sale and the Ledyard Animal Control Appreciation Day. Please check out the articles on both and we hope to see you there!

Our mission is the animals and we will continue to do all we can to make sure those that find their way to the shelter have all they need till a home can be found for them. With your help we will keep growing and our outreach will spread to more that need us.Thank you to all the individuals and businesses that give to us so that we can have what the animals need. Without all of you we would be nothing so all my applause, my thanks, and my sincere gratitude goes to all of you.

Please stay in touch with us on Facebook. We'd love to hear your questions, see pictures of your pets, and learn what things you would like to happen with Ledyard C.H.A.I.N.This group is for you so your input and participation is needed and wanted. Ledyard Police K-9 Lambeau
Receives New Body Armour

Ledyard Police Department’s K9 Lambeau has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vest was sponsored by Ledyard C.H.A.I.N Inc, Ledyard, CT and is embroidered with the sentiment “Be safe our hero. We thank you for your service”.

Thank you to our community for making it possible for us to get this for him and ensuring that he is kept safe while on duty. If you see K-9 Lambeau and his handler, Officer Kempke please thank them for the good works they do!

Ledyard Animal Control Appreciation Day

Date: April 10
Time: 10AM until ?
Place: Ledyard Animal Control

Looking to have a fun and productive day for the Ledyard Animal Control Appreciation Day. I have had some questions on things they need to help spruce up. Of course bedding plants, flower bulbs that can be planted to come up in the fall, any flowering type bushes, mulch, potting soil, garden flags, decorative garden statues, and bird feeders are some of the things I can think of.These items can be brought the day of the event or before if you cannot come on the 10th.

But, they also need those that can help with the grunt work. There are limbs that need to be picked up, some weeds that need to be pulled up, gravel that needs to be raked, and hopefully flowers and bushes that will need to be planted. Bring whatever gardening tools, gloves knee cushions etc that you think you will need to work with as they do not have the equipment there.

We don't want you to think you have to work in order to come. Again this is LAC Appreciation Day so please stop by and give the ACO's a hello and let them know just how much you appreciate them. If you adopted from the LAC you are welcome to bring your pet with you to say hello. Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. will be cooking hotdogs so come by and have a bite of lunch. Bring a chair!!

New Playground Equipment For Shelter Pups

Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. was happy to contribute this playground equipment to the Ledyard Animal Control for the shelter pups to play on. The shelter would still like a few more pieces so if anyone has any of the gym type cubes or sets please let us know or take them directly to the shelter. It's okay if they are sunfaded, just so long as they stand securely.

Join the Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. Crafters!

Are you crafty, artistic, like to create or build? Well we can use your help! Our crofters make goods that can be given to the pets at the shelter or offered to C.H.A.I.N. to offer in raffles or on our event tables to raise money for the organization. Items do not have to have a pet theme but it is fun when they do. Interested? Please get in touch!

On May 21st, C.H.A.I.N. will be attending an event called Canine's & Crafters hosted by the Mystic Lions. So, we are going to need lots of craft items for out table! Put on your thinking caps and starting crafting!!

Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. is especially low on both dry and canned cat food. We prefer the smaller size bags of driy in the 3-7lb. range. We are also low on canned dog foods. These items can be dropped off in any of our donation boxes located at:

Grimm's Furry Tails - Ledyard
AA Lock & Key - Ledyard
Fireside Brickoven Creations -Gales Ferry
Ledyard Senior Center- Gales Ferry
