Aspire’s Spring Newsletter 2021

Welcome to Aspire’s Spring newsletter! We’re so excited to be celebrating our 20th anniversary this year - and we’ve made a roaring start, too, as we emerge from COVID-19 and do our bit to promote a fair and inclusive post-pandemic recovery in our communities. This update is packed with examples of how Aspire is stepping up to the challenge to help people access the tailored support they need.

Supported housing in central Oxford

We're incredibly proud of our rapid introduction of supported accommodation in central Oxford - we have refurbished and transformed several empty townhouses since last autumn, to now offer stable homes to over 30 people experiencing homelessness, and even provided a COVID-secure winter night shelter for rough sleepers throughout the long winter months.

Aspire Enterprise Services

Please join us in wishing a warm welcome to Sophie Kilmister, who will start as Aspire’s new Head of Trading this spring after helping to establish our Enterprise Development Programme. Sophie will lead our trading company, Aspire Enterprise Services - and also joins the Aspire Senior Management Team.

“I’m thrilled and privileged to be working within Aspire Enterprise Services Limited, supporting an incredible team to deliver a range of competitively priced professional services with exceptional inbuilt social impact across Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley. I’m looking forward to supporting this business to grow further, and making a real difference to lives in our communities.”

You can find out all about our professional services, offering grounds care, property services, inclusive recruitment and enterprise development by visiting our brand new website.

Collaborative Recruitment Pathway project

We are delighted to enhance our close partnership with The Midcounties Co-operative to deliver a new recruitment pathway programme, providing work experience placements and inclusive recruitment opportunities at the Cowley Centre Midcounties store for local residents experiencing unemployment.

Participants can build upon their existing skills and knowledge and gain crucial on-the-job customer service experience. And we will develop the partnership further in the summer with the launch of an Enterprise Development hub – watch this space!

One Planet Living at Aspire
Aspire is working in partnership with Bioregional to help our local communities utilise the One Planet Living framework - and lead happier, healthier lives within the natural limits of our one planet. Alongside Michelle, our OPL Community Champion, we have trained a team of fantastic volunteers ready to support third sector organisations across the county to create and implement action plans to achieve environmental sustainability.

We've made encouraging progress with six organisations - including OCVA and Flo’s The Place in the Park - to explore how they can achieve their sustainability goals. Contact Michelle to find out how the One Planet Living framework could benefit your organisation.
