Aspire’s Spring Newsletter 2020: Our Response to COVID-19

First of all, we hope that you and your families are safe and well in these unprecedented times. We want to share with you what we are doing to respond to this crisis, and continue our support for those most in need, however we can, to ensure that Oxfordshire’s most vulnerable people are not forgotten.

Homelessness Prevention and Housing First, to supporting vulnerable young people and those in recovery - team members across all Aspire projects are working tirelessly to make sure we are still reaching the people who need us. We are adapting our critical guidance so we can continue to be there for over 2,000 people - even if it is not quite ‘business as usual’.

Some of the fantastic ways our team is working to make this possible:

  • Working in partnership with other agencies to make sure that the people we support can access emergency food and medication

  • Swift action in emergency situations, including securing emergency accommodation
  • Digitising 1:1 guidance to maintain accessibility

  • Volunteering and employment opportunity guidance
  • Signposting to online training and resources

  • Linking with appropriate services

For many, life beyond the COVID-19 emergency will eventually look brighter. But for the hundreds of disadvantaged and marginalised people across Oxfordshire facing limited access to nutrition, medication and the ability to safely self-isolate today, this will not be the case. We know that in the coming months, Aspire’s specialist support will be needed more than ever before.

Existing obstacles to health, housing and employment for the most vulnerable members of our communities will not relent with the current crisis - and so many more will be at risk of unemployment, poverty and homelessness when the full extent of the pandemic’s damage becomes clear.

Aspire is here to make sure that these people, too often forgotten, have access to the crucial individual support they need as soon as possible - because waiting is simply not an option.

No One Left Behind: Aspire's Emergency Appeal

We have launched an Emergency Appeal to ensure we are able to step up and meet the unprecedented level of demand for our specialist employment and homelessness prevention support in the months to come - so no one is left behind.

Funds raised from this appeal will ensure that Aspire can respond flexibly to the significant increase in demand for our services. We are also playing a key role in the establishment of emergency accommodation in Oxford for those at risk of - or currently experiencing - rough sleeping, and taking steps to reinforce Aspire’s resilience as an organisation, so we can continue to be here, providing effective short and long-term assistance as needed.

But this isn’t something we can achieve alone.
Support Aspire Today
Donate to Aspire’s Emergency Appeal today to play a vital role in sustaining and strengthening the urgent guidance we provide to those in need across the county. Any amount you are able to donate will make a real difference to the continuation of our much-needed services.
“I am so grateful for Aspire delivering food parcels and offering daily telephone support. It helps my mental health knowing someone is at the other end of the phone.” – S, Aspire housing project beneficiary

We are thrilled to have generous matched funding for £12,500 from a private donor, and £2,500 from The Oak Investment Partnership. This means every £1 you are able to give up to £15,000 until Friday 17th April 2020 will be doubled - widening our reach and enhancing our impact on the lives of those facing disadvantage, poverty and homelessness across Oxfordshire.
