Join SPLC's Yearbook Signing Party!

Signing yearbooks is one of the most fun parts of the school year. Unfortunately, students are missing out on it this year because of the coronavirus.

In order to show our appreciation for the student journalists who kept reporting throughout this chaotic year: the yearbook students who worked so hard on their books, and the newspaper students who wouldn't let a pandemic stop them from reporting the news, SPLC is hosting an online yearbook signing party! We'd love to see you there.

Participating is simple, just grab a pen and paper and hand-write a note to your journalism staff, adviser, editors or friends and then post it on social media with the hashtag #YearbookSigningParty. Make sure to tag the person / people you've written about, and tag SPLC too!

When? Next Friday, June 5 (all day)
Where? Twitter, Instagram and Facebook
Who? You! Because we're the SPLC, we're focusing on student media advisers and journalists, but anyone who's interested is welcome to join! The more folks who participate, the better.

Want to be featured on SPLC's social media? Email SPLC Digital Strategist Danielle Dieterich a photo of the note plus your Twitter / Instagram handle, and the handle for the person or publication you're shouting out.

SPLC's Coronavirus Toolkit

Just as a reminder, SPLC has created a broad range of resources to help you protect your newsroom and understand key legal issues while reporting on the coronavirus. Our toolkit contains a letter reminding administrators student media is an "essential service" as defined by federal guidelines, plus guides for fighting censorship or other threats to your program, covering the coronavirus, managing your newsroom remotely and teaching online.
