Constitution Day is almost here

Monday, Sept. 17 is Constitution Day — the perfect time to talk to your students about their First Amendment rights. Here are a few helpful materials to lead that discussion:
  • The SPLC First Amendment rights diagram

Print out and pin up this visual guide to determining if censorship by school officials is legal under the Hazelwood or Tinker standards. See diagram.
  • SPLC's First Amendment Quiz

Are you up for the challenge? Test your understanding of the essential freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment. Take quiz.

Students in the path of Hurricane Florence are covering the storm

Many students in the Carolinas are in the process of evacuating before the hurricane hits. Amid that chaos, some incredible student journalists have stepped up to provide their classmates with the latest information including guides to available services in town, how to protect your car and real time photos.

Is your student publication covering the storm? Tweet at us @SPLC or email reporter Madison Dudley. And, of course, please stay safe!
