Vegan ACT's 30 Day Go Vegan Challenge

Hi <<First Name>>!

Kym's advice for day twenty-two:
What shall I do with my clothes that are made of animal products?
Since animal products are so prolific in our society, chances are you have plenty of clothes - shoes, jackets, jumpers - made of leather, wool, silk etc. Do you need to throw these out? Only if you feel you want/need to. These items are products of cruelty and suffering but it doesn't make sense to compound this by purchasing replacement products and taking a larger toll on our environment and increasing your carbon footprint. Some people can't handle the thought of wearing clothes made from animal products once they see what goes on in the leather industry so just do whatever feels best to you. If you do decide that you can't bear to wear them anymore, give them to a friend or donate them to a second-hand clothes shop rather than throwing them away. Veganism is about making conscious, ethical choices, not only for animals but also for our environment.

TODAYS ASSIGNMENT: Decide whether you want to 'use up' your remaining animal-derived clothes, or donate them away.

Cassie's recipe idea for day twenty-two:

Pumpkin Soup
Makes 4 serves
1 tbsp olive oil
4 cloves garlic, whole
1 brown onion, roughly chopped
3cm piece ginger, roughly chopped
1 tsp ground cumin
800g pumpkin, 5cm pieces
600g potatoes, peeled, quartered
1 tsp salt
800ml vegetable stock
400ml coconut cream
  1. Using a 4 litre soup pot, heat the oil and saute the garlic, onion and ginger until golden brown. Add the cumin, pumpkin, potato and salt and stir to combine.
  2. Pour over the stock and coconut and stir until everything is completely submerged. Simmer over a medium heat for approximately 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Blend with a stick mixer until consistently smooth.
