Organization Spotlight: iSisters Technology Mentoring

iSisters Technology Mentoring creates and delivers free technology programs for women in need. This year, the organization celebrates 20 years of delivering programs to learners that are built through strategic alliances with nonprofit community partners. The organization has been accredited since 2014.

“Imagine Canada accreditation is a key iSisters strategy for promoting and supporting quality assurance, continuous quality improvement and performance measurement practices.  Being accredited identifies strengths and gaps in our programs and processes, improves learner outcomes and mitigates risks, promotes communication and staff/contractor empowerment, fosters a culture of quality and safety and decreases risk to the organization.”

We are pleased to announce that Erin Keeley-Messier will be joining our team as Program Manager on July 6, 2021.   Welcome to iSisters Erin!

Hoping you and yours had a great Canada Day!
Here’s a hand-coloured albumen print by Ottawa photographer Elihu Spencer of the first Dominion Day (Canada Day), July 1st, 1867 on Parliament Hill, Ottawa. It’s one of the only known images of Canada’s first Dominion Day.

The History of iSisters - A success story

iSisters Technology Mentoring was founded by women, for women.

In 2001, four teachers – all innovators concerned with leaving their community better than they found it – decided to volunteer together. They knew their strength lay in education and feminism, and they identified technology mentorship as a gap in the services available in Ottawa.

Through trial and error, a donated computer lab, a set of Palm Pilots and plenty of long hours after work, Cathy, Helen, Michelle and Kelly founded iSisters.

For twenty years, iSisters along with our community partners, has worked to serve the most vulnerable women in our region.  We help women who would not otherwise have access to gain basic technology skills, search for employment and begin to build a brighter future for themselves and their families.

Congratulations Youville Grads!

On June 18, 2021 the Youville Centre held it's 33rd graduation ceremony along with M.F. McHugh Education Centre and St. Nicholas High School.  10 graduates crossed the state; young mothers who showed high levels of resiliency and tenacity, navigating their education path during a pandemic, while parenting.  iSisters is proud of our partnership with Youville Centre helping young mothers through our Assistive Technology Program.

Congratulations to Kelly Rasmussen on receiving the Angel Award 2021!

iSisters has been in partnership with the Youville Centre for almost 15 years, and has given many of our students hope and support in pursuing their post-secondary goals. Kelly Rasmussen has been our Youville-iSisters mentor for the past five years, and we couldn’t imagine a more welcoming, supportive, and patient ally to work with our students.
