iSisters Celebrates 20 Years!

2001 to 2021

It is hard to believe that it has been 20 years since iSisters was officially registered as a charity helping women in need gain needed access to technology skills training.

As many of you know, iSisters was formed when four teachers – all innovators concerned with leaving their community better than they found it – decided to volunteer together.

Since our inception in 2001, we’ve assisted over 3300 disadvantaged women to improve their lives. This year, we’ll be marking our and our learners’ successes over the years with stories in our newsletter and on social media. And, we’ll be capping off the celebrations with an exciting virtual 20th Anniversary Event in October. Stay tuned to hear more!

How it started …

The first iSisters program was at St. Mary’s Home, with some donated Palm Pilots. The young mothers attended an iSisters program to learn about technology, in complement to their high school studies.

How it’s going …

In 2021, programs are on-line during the pandemic and we’ve been running computer and employment skills classes with young mothers, newcomers, Inuit and criminalized women. We are looking forward to the day we can return class!

Thank You Volunteers

April 18 - 24 marked this year’s National Volunteer Week, where non-profits like iSisters celebrate the contributions of volunteers who are so critical to making our work a success. We are grateful for the many dedicated individuals — on our board, committees and elsewhere — who through their efforts, help us assist more women in need in our region each year. Thank you!
