Hungry festival-goers taste samples of the area's best gumbos.

Spring Festivals Celebrate Culture and Food

Shreveport-Bossier is home to more than 55 festivals and annual events celebrating everything from crawfish to independent film. This year-round calendar of festivities kicks off each spring as Carnival season comes to a close and warmer weather arrives.

The 4th Annual Battle of the Gumbo Gladiators, an afternoon-long gumbo cook-off, will take place, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., in downtown Shreveport’s Festival Plaza on Saturday, March 19. During the event, gumbo teams from throughout the region will compete for cash prizes and bragging rights, while festival-goers will be able to sample gumbos and vote for their favorites. Team registration is open now through March 9. The 52nd Annual Louisiana Redbud Festival, also scheduled for Saturday, March 19, will be held in historic downtown Vivian and will feature a parade, an old fashioned street dance, arts and craft vendors and much more.

Festival season is just getting started in Shreveport-Bossier, and popular April festivals celebrating Asian culture, wine, arts and crafts and much more are just around the corner. Visit www.SBFunGuide.com for a complete list of festivals and annual events in Shreveport-Bossier.

Busy spring ahead for the
American Rose Center.

A Busy Spring Ahead for the Gardens of the American Rose Center

The Gardens of the American Rose Center, a 118-acre network of gardens that features more than 20,000 rose bushes and is home to the American Rose Society, is gearing up for a busy calendar of spring activities. Gardeners at every level will want to take part in the annual spring Green Thumb Seminar on Saturday, Feb. 27, featuring author and private garden designer Stephen Scanniello. This free, educational program will be followed by the annual Spring Easter Egg Hunt and Lady Bug Release on Saturday, March 19 and the gardens will open to the public on Friday, April 1. Admission to the gardens is free for 2016.

Groups of 15 or more who’d like to visit the gardens together can now take part in a new group tour experience designed in partnership with the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau. “All About the Roses” is a 90-minute tour of the gardens that includes a walking tour, lessons on cultivation and a tasting of jellies and teas made using real roses. Cost is $10 per guest and up to 50 guests can be accommodated. To book your group’s experience call 318-938-5402.
Moni's Brats is one of the newest food trucks in Shreveport - Bossier.

20x49.com: Moni’s Brats Is a German Eatery on Wheels

Shreveport-Bossier’s food truck scene includes a variety of mobile eateries serving everything from gumbo to gourmet hot dogs. Moni’s Brats, a new mobile eatery serving traditional German street food like bratwurst, currywurst and schnitzel, will introduce a new schnitzel menu during an appearance at Great Raft Brewing on Saturday, Feb. 27. The eatery regularly “pops up” at locations around Shreveport and Bossier City.

The upcoming appearance at Great Raft Brewing is especially good news for folks who love to pair beer with their dinner. Great Raft Brewing’s most popular beer, the German-style pale lager Southern Drawl, is brewed with German hops and should go great with traditional German cuisine. Read more about Moni’s Brats and their new schnitzel menu on 20x49.com.
