From ziplining over live alligators at Gators and Friends Alligator Park and Exotic Zoo to flyboarding with iFlyH2O at Cypress Black Bayou, Shreveport-Bossier offers a variety of outdoor adventures for every kind of adventurer. April and May are a great time to explore local parks and trails, including trail systems at Red River National Wildlife Refuge and Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park. Fishing enthusiasts will want to mark their calendars for upcoming bass fishing events including the Gusher Days Festival bass tournament at Earl G. Williamson Park in Oil City, May 7, and the 2016 Lady Bass Anglers Association Fishing Tournament on Caddo Lake, May 20-21.

Late Spring is also a great time to explore the scenic Boom or Bust Byway, a local scenic byway that has been named a Southern Travel Treasure by AAA Southern Traveler magazine. Roadside wildflowers will be in full bloom along the byway, which can be explored with the assistance of a free mobile app (search “N LA Byways” in the iTunes Store or Google Play for Android to download) or by picking up a handheld device called a GPS Ranger.
