Mardi Gras Season Continues in February

Mardi Gras season is underway in Shreveport-Bossier, where some of the largest krewes in Louisiana welcome visitors to experience extravagant parties, huge parades and more! Travelers who plan to visit Shreveport-Bossier in February can catch the Krewe of Gemini XXVII Parade at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, beginning on Clyde Fant Parkway in downtown Shreveport and proceeding along the parade route towards East Kings Highway via Shreveport-Barksdale Highway. The Krewe of Gemini XXVII Parade is themed “Magic of Mardi Gras” and will feature floats, marching bands and much more.

The final major Mardi Gras parade of the 2016 Carnival season, the Krewe of Highland XXI Parade, will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7, in Shreveport’s historic Highland neighborhood. The parade will begin at the intersection of Gregg Avenue and Gilbert Drive and will circle the Highland neighborhood via Creswell Avenue, Olive Street and Centenary Boulevard.

Foodie-Friendly Valentine’s Day Celebrations

Looking for a delicious way to celebrate Valentine’s Day? Several foodie-friendly Valentine’s Day celebrations have been announced in Shreveport-Bossier, including The Remington Suite Hotel’s Party with Passion, featuring food by Ki’ Mexico, live music and more, and a five-course Valentine’s Dinner at Sainte Terre featuring food by Chef Holly Schrieber, wine pairings and live music. Many local restaurants are also planning special Valentine’s Day dinners, including Noble Savage Tavern, Abby Singer’s Bistro at Robinson Film Center and more.

Local chocolatier The Chocolate Crocodile, located at the Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets, sells thousands of hand-dipped chocolate strawberries each Valentine’s Day, making their sweet treats one of Shreveport-Bossier’s most popular Valentine’s gifts.

“We’re very quality-conscious about our berries,” said Chocolate Crocodile owner Cyndi Ragon. “We use only long-stemmed California strawberries, and we’ll go through 250 to 300 flats of strawberries for Valentine’s Day.” That’s nearly 20,000 strawberries!
