The Smart Commuter

February 2022

After 10 Years at the Helm, Smart Commute Executive Director Says "Farewell" | RTD is Redistricting | Intrepid Winter Bikers - Get an RTD MyRide Card | Denver Post Provides Detailed Reporting on RTD | News to Peruse — read on!
These past ten years have been both challenging and fulfilling. I’ve had the great good fortune to have worked with talented and dedicated colleagues, partner organizations, members, supporters and Board Members that have helped nurture a small one-person start-up non-profit grow into an influential organization recognized for its expertise, innovation, and passion for transportation improvements and mobility options. I’m proud of our multitude of accomplishments, and I thank you all for the part you have contributed to our success.

Our focus through these years has been information, action and advocacy. We’ve had a significant impact on regional and state policy decisions, participation on project prioritization and exposure to innovative technology. I’m most proud of the part we played in advocating for the N Line project, the annual TransForum events, the creation of a workforce focused FlexRide shuttle service and the introduction of an income qualified eBike “Loan to Own” program.

The future holds many exciting opportunities for Smart Commute with Carson Priest at the helm. This organization will be in good and competent hands under Carson’s leadership and with the continued support of the very talented Smart Commute staffers: Catherine Sanders, Tammy Herreid, and Jeanne Shreve.

RTD district boundaries are changing due to population changes and growth in the entire metro region, with proportionally more growth occurring in the north area.  See the proposed redistricting map.

The Denver Post published interesting in-depth reporting on RTD, and summarizes some of the broad challenges facing our regional transit system. It's an illuminating read.

Thought provoking: "'We’re going to give you 100% of the best service that we possibly can by optimizing our service delivery model and discerning where people need to go, and how they need to get there,' Johnson said in an interview. 'And when we talk about routes that could potentially be eliminated, that doesn’t mean we’re eliminating mobility options.'"
