2021 has been just as unique for our communities as 2020. Smart Commute continued to evolve our work to ensure we were providing the information, action and advocacy we commit to as our mission in serving our local communities each year. We look forward to sharing with you:

2021:  In Numbers

Smart Commute's eBike Program, launched in 2021, has seen great success, and offers an unprecedented opportunity to connect low income commuters with a fast, healthy, and environmentally friendly travel option.  Learn more about the Smart Commute eBike Program on the Smart Commute Website.
In 2021, the Smart Commute-supported Wagon Road FlexRide began offering service seven days a week, with the addition of Sunday service in the summer.  The Wagon Road FlexRide is one of two FlexRides in the RTD system to offer service every day of the week.  Learn more about the Wagon Road FlexRide on the Smart Commute Website.
In May, Smart Commute was awarded a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT)  CanDo Community Telework Program Grant.  With this grant, we contracted with a wellness professional, to create simple and accessible, on-demand Telework Training Videos for Health and Wellness, especially in ergonomics, mental wellness, and physical wellness.  Watch them on the Smart Commute YouTube Channel.

In 2021, Smart Commute launched Bike to Summer in order to encourage bike trips during the warmer months of the year. In addition to partnering with local jurisdictions on in-person events, on-demand challenges and virtual rides supported continual engagement.   Learn more about Bike to Summer on the Smart Commute Website.

In November and December, Smart Commute focused on talking with and thanking RTD riders for the role they play in reducing congestion and air pollution at Thanks for Riding RTD Appreciation Events. We were happy to listen to riders, and hear their thoughts, frustrations and ideas for the future of transit.  To learn more about transit service in the north area, visit the RTD Website.
On Friday November 5, the Rocky Mountain ACT Chapter and CDOT hosted their First Annual TDM Conference. Smart Commute’s very own team members, Karen Stuart, Catherine Sanders and Carson Priest, played an active role in this inaugural statewide conference.
Smart Commute responded immediately to the news of an Employee Traffic Reduction Program in 2021.  We engaged with regulators at the Regional Air Quality Council, and then the Air Pollution Control Division of the Colorado Department of Health and Environment, to advocate for a thoughtful, fair, and effective rule.  While the Proposed Rule was ultimately withdrawn in July, we responded proactively to engage and prepare large employers, and ensure they were connected to our expert support.  Learn more about Smart Commute's Voluntary ETRP Programs on the Smart Commute Website.
Smart Commute saw growing engagement with both employers and commuters in our annual North Metro Commuter Survey, which approached evaluation from a commuter-trip-reduction lens.  Download the full report on the Smart Commute website.
Founded nearly ten years ago in 2012 by the local elected officials representing communities in the north area, Smart Commute continues to work in support of our mission:

Smart Commute Metro North works with communities and businesses to promote transportation options and improvements, foster economic vitality and enhance mobility in the metro north region.

Smart Commute's five staff members, along with our eleven board members,  feature some final numbers to help frame much of the work that Smart Commute has done in 2021, and has continued to do over the many years of our existence.

In 2021, Smart Commute is nine years old, and we will reach our tenth anniversary as an organization in the coming year, growing from a one-employee shop in 2012 to five in 2021.  We have big plans, and we look forward to sharing them with you!

Safe Journeys this holiday season and in the year ahead from Karen, Carson, Jeanne, Tammy and Catherine!

Speaking of nine years as an organization, for a chance to win one of 9 RTD MyRide Cards worth $10.50 complete this form.
