SUMMER STUDIO TIMES SET

Pictured: Public Access Coordinator Charles Douglas addresses the Quarterly Studio Producers Meeting in the RVTV Studio. Photo by Alex Mesadieu.

There'll be more to say in the next bulletin about the big plans RVTV Staff is cooking up for our local producer community this summer...but we wanted to get the Studio calendar (left-hand column below) out to you so you can start planning now for your productions.

As always, we want to give the opportunity to producers who weren't able to make last week's meeting the chance to request a studio production timeslot before the leftovers all get snapped up...so we're embargoing any of the "Open" timeslots until 6pm Saturday for any producer not already on the board to make their interest known by e-mailing douglasc@sou.edu to make their request(s).

We've already had producers attempting to "trade" production timeslots with each other even before the release of the Summer Quarter studio calendar. While we appreciate the enthusiasm, under no circumstances can this be allowed to take place.

Studio timeslots are not a tradable commodity like frozen orange juice concentrate or pork bellies; they have no cash value as they are not a "right" traded on a market like a carbon emmission future. Studio use is a "privilege" granted to Studio Certified producers, and studio timeslots are reserved with staff (and, with a one-week minimum notice, can only be cancelled with staff).

If you wish to clear out a studio timeslot you have reserved, you must e-mail staff to do so -- and if someone you're working with wants to 'trade' with you, they must likewise cancel the studio timeslot they no longer wish to use. Once this is done, these "Open" timeslots can then be cross-reserved to the respective producers -- again, through staff, not with each other.

This process must be funneled through RVTV Staff only, for the simple reason that the producers are responsible to the station, and not to each other, for their use of the studio. We've had studio time go unused due to miscommunication between producers in this regard, which then combines with a lack of communication with RVTV proper to create unfortunate situations where this valuable time goes to waste.

We're very thankful for your help in this regard, and we anticipate your ever-growing production values on proud display as you roll out your new or continuing productions in the months to come.

- Charles

P.S. Our Field Production Certification Workshop series kicks off Saturday at Noon here at the Digital Media Center -- there are still some seats available if you'd like to attend, or know someone who would.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE NOTES

Our normal weekly equipment checkout time is on Tuesdays between 3:30-6:30 p.m. Producers are highly encouraged to reserve the equipment they need IN ADVANCE. To do so, please e-mail Charles Douglas at douglasc@sou.edu or call (541) 552-6898. Please turn in equipment during this time and notify us in advance of any time conflicts – do NOT leave equipment at the front desk, the back counter, or with anyone other than Charles, Brandon or Eli.

Studio Production Times
for Summer Quarter 2016

REMINDER: All cancellations must be made with 7 (seven) days notice, at the peril of losing all production timeslots for this quarter and the next. Yes, we really mean it -- no exceptions aside from documented death in the family, serious illness or other actual emergency. A guest cancellation is not a valid reason -- have a Plan B in place! Cancellations must be made in e-mail format and followed up for confirmation with RVTV staff.

NOTICE OF WORKSHOP RESCHEDULING

Tuesday, July 5th, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Tuesday, July 19th, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Contact Charles Douglas at douglasc@sou.edu to register -- the cost is $40.

A REMINDER ON PROGRAMMING SUBMISSION HOURS

Due to limited staffing at the DMC, we are asking producers to submit their field productions, promos and any other programs to Charles or Alex during these particular hours:

Tuesdays 3:30-6:30pm
Fridays 4-6pm
Saturdays 9am-6pm

(PLEASE NOTE THE NEW TIMES)

This also applies to “walk-in consultations” – while we want to be open to inquires at all hours, the realities of limited staffing hours and increased operational demands make this a regrettable, but necessary request. If at all possible, make it a habit to call or preferably e-mail in advance to make an appointment. This will make for more efficient and successful outcomes for all concerned.

Please note that these program submission hours do not apply to any special appointments you’ve set up with RVTV staff – another incentive for pre-planned meetings – and your reservations to use the Public Access Edit Lab can be accomplished during any time of day that the lights are on at the DMC.
