GLOBAL ALLIANCE FOR CHRONIC DISEASES (GACD)

Call for Diabetes Research Proposals
With the burden of this chronic non-communicable disease ever increasing, the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) is launching a call for proposals on the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes, with a focus on implementation and intervention research in low- and middle-income countries, and indigenous populations in Canada and Australia. The emphasis of this initiative is on existing approaches to prevention and control of type 2 diabetes rather than development of new treatments. In order to maximise the impact of the joint call, research teams applying for funding are expected to consist of researchers from low- and middle-income countries and high-income countries. If you would like to form a potential partnership with researchers or institutions that are based in GACD’s Funding Agencies' countries, you can join its professional forum on LinkedIn and get in touch with other researchers around the world.

INNOVATIVE MEDICINES INITIATIVE (IMI)

IMI launches €115m Calls for proposals
IMI has just launched its 3rd and 4th Calls for proposals under IMI 2, with topics on remote assessment, type 2 diabetes, neuropsychiatry, vaccine manufacture, pertussis vaccines, patient engagement and adaptive pathways.

WELLCOME TRUST

The Wellcome Trust has announced a refreshed funding framework. It draws a clearer distinction between strategic and responsive funding: Strategic funding is available in research areas that it judges to be strategically important, informed by dialogue with the Trust’s researchers and the wider community. Final awards under the current Strategic Awards scheme will be made in July 2015. Responsive funding, which represents the majority, is divided into five categories that run across Wellcome’s Science, Innovations, Medical Humanities, Society and Ethics, and Engaging Science funding. The five categories are: people, seeds, teams, places and resources. Find more information about funding deadlines here.
