HORIZON 2020 OPEN CALLS
Horizon 2020 was launched in December 2013, with funding for projects worth €15 billion over the first two years. This represents the first installment from the EC’s new research and innovation programme. See our website

EUROPEAN CLINICAL RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE NETWORK (ECRIN)
ECRIN services for multinational clinical research. For multinational clinical research projects, access to the coordinated ECRIN services (provided by the distributed infrastructure connecting national ECRIN scientific partner institutions) is granted after evaluation of the project by the ECRIN Scientific Board, and final acceptance by the ECRIN Network Committee (within 8 weeks). See here for more details.

ICGEB Research Grants
Funding opportunities are made available through the Collaborative Research Programme (CRP) - ICGEB Research Grants, which is a unique source of funding aimed at financing those projects addressing original scientific questions that show a potential contribution of particular relevance for the applicant's country. The programme aims to stimulate collaborative research in Member States, facilitating the creation of appropriate research facilities in promising institutes, to promote training of young scientists and develop new research programmes of specific interest in participating countries. Support is available for research projects in many fields of basic science, healthcare and industrial biotechnology.

The MRC and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) invite proposals to the UK-China Stem Cell Partnership Initiative from high quality research teams based in the UK and China. Je-s submission tool available from 15 January 2014.

Enhancing UK's Clinical Research Capabilities & Technologies: call for Expressions of interest 
MRC, in partnership with the DH, Wellcome Trust, CRUK, BHF, ARUK and Research Councils are seeking expressions of interest from internationally recognised institutions with a proven track record in cutting-edge clinical research.

Stratified Medicine - Second call for proposals for disease-focused partnerships to stratify disease for patient benefit 
Stratified medicine is a priority area for MRC. Researchers are invited to submit outline proposals to the second call for funding for the development of disease-focused consortia to stratify disease.

Strategic Awards provide flexible forms of support to excellent research groups with outstanding track records in their field. In particular, Strategic Awards support research to address the challenges outlined in the Wellcome Trust’s Strategic Plan for 2010-2020 which makes particular reference to the challenges of chronic disease, including diabetes.
Preliminary applications may be submitted at any time and are assessed on a rolling basis.
