The legal one! 

So we got married again! What can I say, it's the last one and the legal one, normal newsletter service will resume in full next month :)

If you are interested in all the wedding details I wrote a wee blog post here. It's very long and probably too much detail for most of you suffice to say I could qualify as a wedding planner at this stage and that the Belfast wedding was very different from the Turkey wedding though it was equally wonderful. It was also the legal ceremony and I've now changed my surname to Rea-Kaya. :)

Last weekend I gave a talk on mindfulness for OMS Northern Ireland. OMS Northern Ireland is a group established to support people with Multiple Sclerosis. Greg Hendron, the founder, has been following the OMS programme for over 6 years and has remained well/relapse free. Instead of taking conventional drugs people who sign up to the OMS protocol commit to following a plant-based diet, regular meditation, exercise and some supplements like Vitamin D. Greg is an inspiring example of how successful the program can be.

After I gave my talk to the group the beautiful Nicola Bryce-Ward from Think Fit gave hers on exercise sharing stories of clients who couldn't walk up the stairs but can now run all day! I was so impressed to hear how exercise actually changes our brain, I know mindfulness does this but I hadn't really thought how exercise will but of course it does. Since running my business full-time in 2014 which involves working from home, I'm horrified to admit I do much less exercise! I really want to get back into my yoga and walking practices. It is true if we don't use it we lose it! While the OMS protocol is for those with MS I think the wisdom it contains could benefit everyone! If you want to learn more about the OMS protocol go here.

This month I was also back in my old stomping ground of Parliament Buildings, Stormont. However, this time I was back to offer some mindfulness training to staff (almost 3 years after I gave up my Civil Service job). I love this type of work as people who maybe never thought about mindfulness get a chance to experience it. This month's video of the month is a Tedx Talk by Joanna McEwan 'Why raising your vibration increases serendipity'. An old friend who lives in England was texting me and it was one of those serendipitous conversations and then this video popped up on my newsfeed. Very interesting :) 

This month's book of the month is 'Why Can't I meditate?' One thing you notice when you move house is just how much STUFF you accumulate... My biggest collection of stuff is books. I think I may be addicted! I'm ashamed to say I even found out that I have double copies of some books! Including this one. I think I bought it to help my students but I've never read it and as I have two copies I'd like to give one away.  If you 'can't meditate' this may be the book for you.  Just send me an email saying why you want it and I'll choose a recipient at random. You will to arrange to pick it up from my house in Jordanstown or from my class at Namaste Yoga Centre on the Ormeau Road.  

I also want to give a special mention to one of my mindfulness students Siobhan Mullan who has written a really beautiful children's book Bethany and the Unicorns: Adventures in Unity Woods -it's an absolutely fabulous Kindle book. So inspiring!

Namaste Mindfulness classes

This the only FIVE week course I will be offering all year and so it's a bargain - and selling out already - at £40. Week six takes us up to 21 December, this will be my last class of 2017 and it will be FREE.  As has now become my tradition it will be a Christmas special (followed by a Chinese in Macau below) open to all but I will be asking for donations to charity... Last year we raised £239.50 for Syria Relief. This year the charity is Hospice UK

Following the death of our good friend Debbie Ranger my friend Helen Blakley is running the London Marathon in her memory. The proceeds of the Christmas Charity night will go to Helen's fundraising efforts. Hospice UK supports the NI Hospice, the NI Children's Hospice and the local Marie Curie Hospice and well as the Coventry Hospice Debbie spent her last few months in. 

This event is support by Namaste Yoga Centre and everyone is welcome, please mark it in your diary.

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) Workshops 
The next one of these popular workshops is scheduled for Sunday 5 November.  Everyone is very welcome - it's a good opportunity to meet me in person and have chat about which of my other courses may suit you. Many people also buy a place on the course as a gift for a friend or family member - it's something different and something you can experience together! It's also a nice wee boost and a refresher for those of you who've already completed an 8-week program. The Christmas 10 December and New Year 14 January 2018 workshops are already booking up so please book early. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
8 Wednesday nights starting - 17 January 2018
Includes an all day retreat 

MBSR is an evidence based programme that has been taught around the world for over 30 years. In recent years this course has been the subject of controlled clinical research which has found beneficial effects, including stress reduction, relaxation, and improvements to quality of life. While MBSR has its roots in spiritual teachings, the program itself is secular.
