New courses, new start!

Hello! It's been a while since my last newsletter in May, I've taken some time off to slow down a bit and focus on other things apart from my teaching business... I've still been teaching a little here and there but not as intensively as usual... I need to practice what I preach sometimes, and what I preach is about slowing down, enjoying life, appreciating what we have and enjoying the precious moments :)

That's what I've been doing this summer taking it easy and enjoying. But I haven't forgotten my vocation - to share and spread the wonderful practices that have helped me so much - to help you too :)

I'm now gearing up and taking applications for a whole host of new courses starting in September and October. Before the classes start I'm getting married - I'm sure I've mentioned that before :)

We head off to Turkey on 26 August and get married on 2 September. It really is a very exciting time!  The picture above is from my hen night in Belfast, showing me with some of my lovely friends (Clare, Sharon, Karen and Lorraine - Karen and Lorraine often check this newsletter before it goes out so I want to say thank you to them) in my red veil... I was thinking it would be a quiet affair but actually it was one of the best nights out we'd all had in a long time! We had dinner at the lovely Sofia Restaurant in Belfast and then went to the inimitable Hobbywhores in the Oh Yeah Centre.

I highly recommend both! Such fun and I loved my veil so much I didn't take it off all night! Not sure if your expected to wear a red veil before you get married in Turkey - but I'll let you know next month :)

This month I'm going on a 7 day silent retreat in Dzogchen Beara Meditation Retreat Centre in West Cork. I can't wait - I'm sure it will set me up for the excitements and commitments to come in September.

Before I head off I'd love all of you who are interested in doing one of my 8-week courses to sign up now! I've introduced early bird pricing as many people leave the decision to the last minute causing a bit more work for me... If you apply earlier I have more time to prepare. Please think about it now - don't wait.

Both of my 8-week courses have the capacity to change your life for the better, it's not that you need to change and become a different person, it's just there are practices and ways of thinking that can enable you to become a happier and healthier, more fulfilled you!

We only have one life and it's short - make the most of it, gain understanding wisdom and insight into yourself and others. Become more focused, calmer and happier - try an 8-week programme - see details below.

Many of my past students (more than 12 I think!) are now teaching mindfulness themselves - an 8-week course could enhance the work you already do or lead you to do something else. These days we don't have to stick to one career we can discover other talents and capacities. :)

If an 8-week programme is too much for you don't  forget  to log on to and download my FREE 10-week mindfulness plan that also includes nutrition and fitness plans. It really is wonderful!

The practice of mindfulness and self-compassion will enable you to be a more confident, kind and happy person. What's not to like?

Plum Village Monastic visit to England and Scotland
If you don't mind the short flight there are lots of events coming up with some wonderful English monastics who are making the trip from Plum Village to lead a family retreat and young people's retreat and a serious of other talks and events over the next few months. Brother Ben many of you will know from his trips to Ireland but also Sister Anabel, Sister Natasha and Brother Dillon will be in the country and they are all wonderful teachers. Catch them if you can.  Find out more via this Facebook page or via the Community of Interbeing Website

Video of the month
This video is especially for the people who read this newsletter but have not yet started a mindfulness practice. Andy Puddicome is the ultimate mindfulness businessman - his business 'Headspace' has global reach with the app being downloaded over 11 millions times. In this short TED talk 'all it takes is ten mindful minutes'  he offers a few tips on practice. Enjoy but remember meditation practice is MUCH easier when practiced together in a group, with friends or as part of class :)

Book of the month
This month's book of the month is actually a great holiday read, it was given to me by one of my former MBSR and MSC students - see it in pic below 'The Forty Rules of Love' is compelling and so interesting especially as it tells the story of Rumi the great thirteenth century Persian poet and Sufi Master Shams of Tabriz. Rumi is oft quoted by mindfulness people like myself,I love his work and I'm not the only one, he was according to this BBC article the best selling poet in America in 2014, but most of us don't know anything about him or the fact that he lived and died in Konya a historic Turkish city. The author of The Forty Rules of Love Elif Safak is the most popular female author in Turkey, I'm really grateful to Lyndsay for introducing me to her.  I've just ordered another of her books, but not going to read it untill after the wedding! I'd love to hear what you think about her work and if you read this book. Bx
Namaste Mindfulness classes
Thursday 5 October.
I've been teaching this one hour accessible mindfulness practice class for over nine years now... I normally don't even take a break and last year I even taught through Christmas! So the fact that I've been off all summer means that now the class is up online it's selling already. If you're a student old or new, experienced or a beginner I look forward to sitting with you.
8-week course Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC)
8 Wednesday nights beginning 20 September 2017 also includes an all day retreat on Sunday 29 October. £350 if booked before 2 September, £270 after.
The 8-week MSC is an  empirically researched, wonderful transformative course developed by Chris Germer and Kristen Neff from the Centre for Mindful Self-Compassion. Consisting of eight 3 hour sessions plus a day retreat. It has the power to change your life in amazing ways. Unlike all my other courses I prefer you to have meditation experience already as this course demands a level of mindfulness and understanding. You do not have to have studied with me previously - we can have a talk before you sign-up. Previous groups who have completed the course are continuing to meet and practice.  The pic above is gifts I received from the last group who completed in June, they felt really moved and transformed and wanted to show their appreciation. Please have a look into it and come and join the next group!
New Year 2018 Mindful Self-Compassion RETREAT: Mindfully envision 2018
6-7 January - £250
I'm really organised this year! I've been offering this retreat for the past four Januarys and I love it! It's a great way to start the year and helps you feel positive and full of momentum. I know it was great for me as the first three months of 2017 we're possibly my busiest yet with the Centra Ambassador work and  teaching 3 nights a week and lots of corporate clients too... this retreat helps you set out what it is you want and how you would like to live.  I only take a small number so it stays intimate and personal. Highly recommended.

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) Workshops
Over two years of offering this workshop at Maitri Studio, Belfast and most months including this one it sells out! I've now uploaded the next five months up until 14 January 2018. Please come and join us - it's also a good opportunity to meet me in person and have  chat about which of my courses best suits you. Many people also buy a place on the course as a gift for a friend or family member - it's something different and something you can experience together! Book directly: 17 September, 8 October, 5 November and 10 December.  May you all be happy, healthy, wealthy and well :) x x x
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
8 Tuesday nights starting 19 September 7-9.30pm - £330 (if booked before 2 September £350 after).
Plus an all day retreat on 28 October which includes walking meditation as pictured above from one of my previous retreats.

MBSR is an evidence based programme that has been taught around the world for over 30 years. In recent years this course has been the subject of controlled clinical research which has found beneficial effects, including stress reduction, relaxation, and improvements to quality of life. While MBSR has its roots in spiritual teachings, the program itself is secular.

This September I'm also offering this course exclusively to the staff of the HSC Leadership Centre.

See what previous participants thought here.

It also includes a comprehensive, supportive 90 page file and 3 audio tracks for home practice.
I've been teaching MBSR since 2010 and it is the backbone of all mindfulness training you may be interested in.
