WORD OF THE WEEK: "SHAPE"

One definition of shape is "to make fit for a particular use or purpose." When you think about shaping your body--for what particular purpose do you have in mind? What is your motivation for exercising, for getting fit?

To lose weight?
To look thin?
To fit into a swimsuit or other outfit?
To have more energy?
To compete in an event?

There is no right or wrong answer...but there is a best answer. And that answer is your BIG WHY.
Why do you want to look thin?
Why do you want to fit into a swimsuit?
Why do you want to have more energy?
Why do you want to win an event?
Why, why, why?

Keep asking yourself why until you have an answer that hurts so much or excites you so much that you have to make a change. When your "why" is connected to your values, then you will have the leverage you need to commit to making lasting changes.

Today, determine your BIG WHY--why do you want your body to be in shape?
How do you want to shape your life--your mind, your soul, your family, your future?

Once you know what it is, WRITE IT DOWN. It should be one sentence, or maybe one word or phrase. Post it somewhere so you will be reminded of it often. And know that this Truth--this Big Why--will empower you to make one courageous choice after another.

For me, my big why is based on 1 Corinthians 6:19--my body is God's temple and I should honor Him by taking care of it. When I remind myself of this Truth--I feel empowered to make a healthier choice and resist temptation.

PRAYER REQUESTS/UPDATES:

It's a new year--and with it has come some great new perspectives. I love how God orchestrates messages into my life to encourage me and to change me.

Just yesterday, I asked God to show me & Manny the things we were doing right...I just needed some assurance that all the time and money we were investing was being put into the right things. And I prayed for conviction on things we needed to change. And can I tell you that God is so faithful to hear us and answer us!

Well, Pastor Gene gave this amazing message on Refreshing People...how to leave life-changing deposits in the lives of others. And wow, it really blessed my life!!

God answered my prayer through this message--He confirmed in my spirit that all our efforts to help others be healthy physically, spiritually, relationally and emotionally were good and pleasing to Him. I even had a dear friend tell me that I was a Refresher:) And so, I was thankful that God assured of me my purpose...

And He also revealed to me that I needed to learn how to be better at Refreshing my family. You see, so often I take the time and energy to refresh you, my friends, and anyone else who needs me, while expecting my family to "understand" and accept whatever is left over of my time and energy. And this needs to change. My desire is to Refresh myself in God's presence first--then Refresh my family--and last, but not least, Refresh the lives of those around me. I know it seem obvious--but my actions do not always reflect my best intentions. So would you please pray for me? That I will learn how to manage my time so that I can be refreshed and be refreshing to others.

And let me know how I can pray for and with you to see God manifest His faithfulness and goodness in your life!

Blessings,
Iris

p.s. Please pray for Manny as he prepares to play this weekend--for protection and health, focus and renewed strength. And for us as a family, getting back into the routine of school and schedules! Thank you!
