HONOR GOD WITH YOUR BODY.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
You can have plenty of great excuses,
and choose not to use one of them.

F.I.T. NEWS: 12/23/2013

UNTO US,
A CHILD IS BORN

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

TODAY, we celebrate the birth of Jesus...every year I am amazed at the miracle of His birth, but even more so the purpose of His birth. The fact that Jesus was born for the ultimate purpose of dying on a cross to save me and to save you from the penalty of sin brings me to my knees...and compels me to surrender my will to Him daily.

One tradition we have started for Christmas (borrowed from a dear friend) is to celebrate Jesus' birthday just as I would a loved one whom I can see. So, every year, we make Jesus a cake--which Xaigtlean loves because she loves to bake! And every Christmas Eve, we each write Jesus a letter of thankfulness and a pledge to do at least one thing to know Him better in the upcoming year.

What does Jesus' birth mean to you? How do you celebrate the gift of His salvation, love and hope?

May your hearts be filled with the blessings of God's love, the joy of His presence, and the peace of His Spirit.

Blessings,
Iris

KAMI GROETKEN:
MY BEFORE & AFTER STORY

1. What was life like before your started your journey to health and fitness?

Before I started with Foundations, about a year ago, I did not workout at all. I was overweight and just did not feel good about myself.

2. Why did you start your journey--what prompted it or motivated you to make a change? What were your primary goals?

My biggest motivation to change was wanting to feel better. I was getting closer to 40 and knew something needed to change. I was tired all the time and wanted to get some weight off.

3. Describe steps you took to change, any obstacles you faced and overcame, significant people/things that helped you and anything you want to share.

The biggest obstacle was just starting! I hadn't done any kind of exercise in years, and I didn't want to look foolish when I went to the first Foundations 6:19 class. I knew all the ladies that exercised with Iris had been doing it a long time. I figured there would be no way I could keep up with them. Yes, for my first workout, I did die! But as I continued to go, it got better. No, its never easy; but oh, I feel so good when I do it!

4. How is life different now? What is the greatest success you have achieved so far?

Life is different for me now because exercise is a true part of my life. I really try to workout 3 to 5 times a week. And I can say I'm in better shape now (at almost 40) than I was at 20. I haven't lost a ton of weight (9 lbs) but I have lost many many inches. I have gone down a size in my tops and pants so that to me is more important than the weight (well that's at least what Iris would tell me).

5. How do you see yourself continuing your journey and the impact it will have on those around you?

I want my journey to continue strong, because I want my kids to see me being active and really working on me. I want to encourage others to take the first step. Even if it's hard! It is so worth it. Also once you start, keep going! It took a while for me to see results, and I really wanted to give up at times. But in the long run, its been the best decision I have made! Thank you! Thank you Iris! Love you lots!

6. How has Foundations 6:19 helped you on your journey?

Foundations has helped me learn to exercise and eat better.
I appreciate everything Foundations 6:19 (Iris) has helped me to accomplish in reaching my health & fitness goals.

SCRIPTURES OF THE WEEK

PRAYER REQUESTS/UPDATES:

FAMILY:
Our trip to Houston was great! We enjoyed time with family and friends, and it was good to just be able to relax!! Thank you for all your prayers!

US:
Elf on the Shelf was placed on hold due to our traveling, but the kids weren't too disappointed. We all enjoyed the new tradtion, though, so I'll be better prepared for next year!

I do have a praise report!! Jomari is very close to being potty trained!! and all with very little effort from me. They've been working with him at pre-school. He's been wearing real underwear and staying dry all day, going potty every hour. It's tricky when he gets home because he hasn't gotten used to pooping in the potty, so we've had some accidents. But he did AMAZING when we were in Houston! I think I only changed his pull-up once the whole trip (4 days)! So very thankful that it hasn't been stressful experience!

MANNY:
Well, we won and clinched the AFC division and a first week bye in the playoffs! Manny had a great game and most importantly, he is not hurt. Please keep our friend Steve Vallos in your prayers. He suffered a concussion and is waiting to be cleared to play this weekend. Also, Von MIller is out for the season with a torn ACL-so please pray for his health and that our defense will step up to fill his shoes.

FOUNDATIONS 6:19:
And the building is down!! Thank you for all support and prayers. We are excited to get started on the next phase--the floor plan!

And please keep me in your prayers for the upcoming website/blog. I didn't get much done last week with all the Christmas preparations and traveling...but hoping this week proves to be more productive!

I would love to unite in prayer with you in any way you need me to. Please let me know how I can serve you!

Blessings,
Iris
