PROTECTION...
PROVISION...
PROGRESS...

I am a strong believer in boundaries...or as one friend calls them "absolutes." Many people perceive boundaries as restrictions or some kind of deprivation...but boundaries aren't meant to be a negative notion. Boundaries serve to protect us, provide opportunities, and move us toward progress in all areas of life.

When it comes to being healthy, boundaries are critical to achieving and maintaining a lifestyle that is balanced and enjoyable. And only you can set your boundaries--only you know the areas in your life that are in need of attention and regulation. We all struggle with different temptations and a variety of distractions--but God has given us each all we need to live a godly life, including one that is healthy! And as we persevere through the struggle, we become more mature and will lack nothing!!

This week, we are focusing on Nutrition. My hope is that you will be able to create at least 3 boundaries this week that will move you closer to reaching your health & fitness goals!

Blessings,
Iris

WORD OF THE WEEK: "BOUNDARIES"

Nutritional boundaries can be the easiest boundaries to create--but the most challenging boundaries to sustain. Why is that? Why is it so hard to eat healthy?

The first challenge to overcome is your attitude towards food.

What are your thoughts about food?
Do you have a love/hate relationship with food?
Do thoughts about food consume you, meaning you are eating breakfast and thinking about what you'll eat for lunch/dinner?

How do you view food?
As a source of comfort?
companionship?
reward?
stress relief?

If you can relate to any of these questions, don't be discouraged...you're not alone! We often turn to food when we are lacking in another area of our lives--but there is HOPE! You can change the way you think about food so that you change the way you eat food!

The first mental shift you need to make is to understand that food is intended to fuel your body--rather than satisfy your emotional needs or become an escape for life's tough situations.

When you can grasp that concept, you will be able to say 'yes' to the foods that better for you and 'no' to the foods that don't benefit your healthy efforts. And this is called "eating according to your goals." You eat the foods that will help you reach your goals, you don't eat foods that will sabotage your efforts.

Setting boundaries regarding your nutrition is simply deciding:
1) what foods you will eat (are good for you),
2) what foods you won't eat (are not good for you) and
3) when you will eat your food (timing & planning).

The process of deciding may be a little more complicated, but this is a great start. Your boundaries should:
1) protect you from overeating and feeling guilty for what you ate,
2) provide energy and nourishment for your body to carry out daily tasks, and
3) progress you forward to reaching your goals for health & fitness.

As we focus on nutrition this week, consider boundaries that you need to create to bring balance to your life and start you on a path towards lasting victory!

SCRIPTURES OF THE WEEK

ACTION OF THE WEEK:

Your call to action this week is to set boundaries for your nutrition for at least this week--set at least 3:

1. What foods (and/or beverages) will you NOT eat? Choose at least one.
Mine: No fried foods, no enriched products, no carbonated drinks/caffeine.

2. What foods will you ADD or INCREASE that will help fuel and nourish your body?
Mine: Vegetables, Vegetables and Vegetables!

3. When will you eat your meals & snacks?
Mine: 1 hour within waking up, every 3-4 hours thereafter, not after 9pm.

Post to our facebook page to share your boundaries and/or provide some encouragement & accountability!

PRAYER REQUESTS/UPDATES:

WOW! What a week!! Thank you for all your prayers!!

First off, Praise God we won this weekend--against the Patriots!! Thank you to all who cheered us on and prayed for us. WE ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL! It is so unreal!! But so amazing at the same time! Please continue to pray for protection from injury, focus in preparation, and trust that giving their best on the field will honor God and trust His plan is perfect! We are so thankful for the opportunities and experiences God has provided through the NFL. I am so thankful that Manny was given a chance to show his skills and contribute so much to the team. And even more thankful for the all the wonderful teammates and families we have met and shared this journey with because it is priceless!

I am doing better with my time and giving my self grace--just trusting God to guide my steps and grant me favor to complete His agenda above my own!

House update: we are in the process of buying our home! It's exciting and things are going well right now...please continue to pray that we close on time and without too much (if any) stress!

AND...we are excited to share that we have started the blueprints for the new building in Earth! God has orchestrated a great partnership, and we couldn't be more thrilled to be moving forward with this project for God's honor & glory!! My prayer is that the building will be up and running by next off-season!!

One last prayer--please continue to keep my cousin Chachi & uncle Ruben in your prayers as they await their sentencing. We are believing for a miracle and God's best to manifest through this process. Please pray specifically for hope and peace in their hearts to trust God and that each would draw closer to God as they trust Him more and more everyday with every detail of their lives.

As always, I'd love to pray for you in any way you need me to!

Blessings,
Iris
