Greetings, Friends!
Oh, my. So much happens and changes in a month, doesn't it? This year is off to an excellent start for me, even in the first month. Regardless of all the political upheaval in our world today, I am filled with hope and enthusiasm. I'm determined to make good stuff happen in my own life, and I want good stuff to happen in yours, too.

The highlight of January was planning and executing a surprise birthday gift for my sweetheart--and I pulled it off! It was extravagant, but I'd saved up for it. If you've known me long--or read my book Happy Birthday--you know that since I turned 50, I've planned something special for my own birthdays, so I'll look forward to growing a year older every April.

Well, I figured, why not give Greg the same gift? Besides, that makes two in one year for me. Ta-da!

So, on the morning of his birthday, we boarded a plane and flew to Las Vegas, were met by a shuttle, and driven to the Bellagio Hotel. All very easy on our aging bodies. Got there in time for a quick snack, then on to the best surprise. Still in the SAME hotel, we walked to the theatre and saw the most incredible show in America (I don't know how to compare it to Hamilton because I haven't seen that one). But, we saw the best Cirque Du Soleil available, simply called "O." It is in, on, under, and above water. Indescribable. You can read about it online.

Success. Greg said it was the most incredible show he'd ever seen and the best birthday present he'd ever had! How do you imagine that made me feel as a start to my year?

I wish you the same happiness in everything you plan--whether it's coffee with a friend or a trip like this one. Enjoy every day.
I'm excited to be doing research on a significant suffragette who doesn't get much attention for her support of women's right to vote.

What she's known for is the creation of the most famous cartoon character and doll prior to Mickey Mouse.

Her name is Rose O'Neill, the first woman in the U.S. to earn--from her own work--a million dollars.

Her creation: the Kewpie Doll.

Stay tuned. I'll be writing more about this.
Rose O'Neill supported the women's movement in the early 20th century by illustrating many posters like this one. This "copy of a copy of a copy" is hard to read, so here is the poster translation.
Give Mother the Vote
We Need It
Our food, our health, our play, our bodies, our work are ruled by men's votes.

Isn't it a funny thing that Father cannot see why Mother ought to have a vote on how things should be?

"When & Then" Thinking

  • When I retire, then I'll write a book.

  • When I get the house cleaned, then I'll work on the story I'm writing.

  • When it warms up so I can sit outside, then I'll stick to a writing schedule.

What's your "when and then" bugaboo?

My Book Update . . .

I now have the working title for my memoir--Chronic.

It's written to appeal to all of us who have a chronic health condition: fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, addictions, depression, migraines.

These health issues have enormous and sometimes hellish emotional and psychological impacts that are difficult for most people to express.

If you have one of these issues, I think you'll identify with my story.

I welcome your comments. Click here.

Regardless of our chronological age,

we’re all aging —

and that’s no small thing.

As we age, our whole world begins to change—socially, physically, spiritually, psychologically.

If we keep our minds open to what these changes are, we can more
intelligently direct our lives to be the older person we want to be
