SWIFT-FIT Assessments are Underway in all SWIFT States

The SWIFT-FIT, a fidelity implementation tool used by SWIFT technical assistance providers, is a research tool that measures the extent to which a school is implementing the SWIFT framework of inclusive education. Trained assessors administer the SWIFT-FIT by reviewing documents, conducting classroom observations, and interviewing members of the school community. The results from the SWIFT-FIT are intended to both document the extent to which a school is implementing SWIFT and to guide action planning for moving a school forward in installing SWIFT practices.  Currently, SWIFT-FIT assessors are conducting the SWIFT-FIT in 64 schools across our five SWIFT states.  Throughout this process we are gaining a deeper understanding of the unique strengths of each of our schools. We are also gathering information that will be used to guide future technical assistance for each school.  We are enjoying learning about how different schools implement each of the SWIFT features, and we look forward to continuing this process with our schools.  Read SWIFT member Allyson Satter’s blog post in SWIFT Talk to find out how the SWIFT-FIT is being used in Mississippi.

NLC Makes Plans for 2014 and Beyond

On November 7th and 8th, the SWIFT National Leadership Consortium (NLC) met in Kansas City, MO. The meeting began with a reflection of the accomplishments from the first year of SWIFT. After recapping the highlights from year one, teams worked to create action plans for some of the current and future SWIFT projects. On the final day, the Policy Team presented to the NLC on the implications of policy for SWIFT implementation. Each time the NLC meets, their productivity impresses us and this meeting was no exception. We are excited to see the results of the work that was started here, and we look forward to the next time we can all meet together.
