6|2|2022 Until We Meet Again

<<First Name>>
13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

Hope gives our grief a direction, and sets the course for our life.  The Christians in Thessalonica were living in anticipation of Christ’s return.  But what about those who pass away before Christ returns?  In his letter to the people of Thessalonica, Paul encourages them not to mourn as the rest of the world grieves, for they have a hope that cannot be shattered by the pain and the heartache of this world.  They have hope in the resurrection, and a new life.

As people of faith, we understand that this world is not our final destination.  Therefore, we set our lives on a different path, living our lives in light of what is to come in eternity.  This hope helps us find life, even in the face of our losses.  For our hope is anchored in the promise of the resurrection.

But the resurrection is both a future and a present event.  Jesus doesn’t just raise the dead back to life for all eternity.  Christ raises us back to life in our present reality as well.  Through the Holy Spirit, Christ brings renewal into our lives now.  God doesn’t just forgive our sins, God cares for us and restores us.   God didn’t just create life, God nourishes and sustains it.  God’s love isn’t something that is to come, it is something we often encounter through the people God has placed in our life.  So no matter the hardships we may face, or the grief we may bear, we have this amazing hope which gives us life.

We hope you will join us this week as we wrap up our series Good Grief.  Because good grief finds life, even in our losses.

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Gordon
