“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…” - Matthew 28:19
At the core of the church is a mission. Before leaving this earth Jesus gave his followers a job to do. His work wasn’t finished. He tells them it is now their responsibility to go. To go to all peoples, carrying the good news they found in him. It is their task now to make disciples; he gives them the assignment of a rabbi. But unlike other rabbis of the day, their task wasn’t to make disciples of themselves but to point others to Jesus, helping them find their identity with Christ.
At the core of the church is a mission, to continue to bring God’s love, to continue to bring God’s Kingdom to all of the world. It is an overwhelming and intimidating task. “God, how can I possibly bring your good news to all nations? I can hardly speak English well enough to be understood.” Maybe we are still working through our own questions and doubts, how can we possibly have the answers for someone else. But God doesn’t expect you to have all the answers, he simply asks you to point the way.
At Crossroads, we have a saying often found with our church name and logo - “where faith and life meet.” As the story goes, early on in the history of Crossroads Church a group had gathered to discuss possible names. One woman shared she liked the name Crossroads as it described where she was at in life. She felt she was at a crossroads in her own life where faith and life meet. Since then, Crossroads has always been about meeting people at those intersections and bringing the hope of the gospel to those facing their own crossroads. God doesn’t expect us to have all the answers, but you might just be the signpost at one of those intersections that helps someone find their way.
Whether you are at a crossroads in your own journey, or just want to help others take that next step of faith, we would love to have you join us this week as we continue our series, At the Core.
