I stared back at the reflection of perfectly placed curls purposely formed in an elegant array. I took in a deep breath and let out relaxed sigh of excitement, nervousness and disbelief. After the salon, the next stop was the flower shop to pick up my bouquet and all nine bridesmaid’s rose arrangements.
My first breath of the day appeared with the dawn of the sun. After time in prayer of thankfulness and attempt at swallowing some breakfast, I determined I wanted to remember each part of this day. From the first moments alone with Jesus, to the preparations, putting on my dress, gathering with friends and family, to the sensational swing music by the live band, I wanted to set every detail apart in my memory. Something I still encourage Brides to do on their big day. “Don’t get caught up in all the crazy, but take in all the joy and beauty of this special day”, I tell them.
Most of us find great joy in seeing the bride in all her splendor on her wedding day. But what can compare to the expression of delight when the groom sees her. He can’t wait to receive her. His BRIDE! He can see and think of nothing else. Such a precious moment.
This is how Christ sees the church, the people of God. A Bride. A beautiful people preparing to be with Him. Images of the ‘Bride of Christ’ are mentioned in several places in scripture, including Isaiah 61 and Revelation 21, both prophesying of the time coming when the church is reunited with Christ. Revelation 21:9 “...Come I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb (Christ)”.
As a church, we listen for the ‘bridegroom’. We recognize His voice. We take great care in our preparations. We long to be reunited with Him. Christ’s abundant love for his church is evident in how he prepares for us - His Delightful Bride.
The love Christ has for you, is abundant and never ending. Delight in His love just as a bride and bridegroom would delight in each other.
In Christ’s Service,
PS. - We will meet at the school on Sunday after all. Graddy Photography will join us to capture the day and there will be wedding cake and a light reception following the service. Apple gleaning will be rescheduled for next weekend.
