February-A Month for Love 
 

I know, I know, you’re thinking “Great, another article about Valentine’s Day!”  Not so fast! Valentine’s Day may be February’s main attraction, but I want to highlight a different celebration that happens this month.  It happens every year on the second Sunday.  And I bet most of you have never heard of it.  It’s World Marriage Day! 

 
World Marriage Day is a great reminder of the importance we need to place on spouse and family.  According to its purpose statement, “World Marriage Day honors husband and wife as the foundation of the family, the basic unit of society. It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in daily married life.”  In a world where the family is under increasing attack, and in a culture where mom and/or dad are thought to be expendable, we need this celebration more than ever.     
 
So don’t wait until Valentine’s Day to honor your spouse.  Your marriage is important—the most important institution you’re a part of!  Tell your wife why you think she’s wonderful.  Let your husband know why you appreciate him.  Sit down together for a few quiet minutes, away from the stress and struggle of everyday life, and remember why you chose each other.  This February, don’t let Hallmark define “love” for you.  Instead, this month celebrate your spouse. Celebrate your family.  And celebrate your marriage!”
