Local artist Ernesto Gomez, whose watercolor works were recently featured at the Redlands Art Association, generously donated a framed 11x14 print of his original watercolor of A.K. Smiley Public Library. It is currently on display in the glass case next to the circulation desk on the first floor.
Tickets are available in the Friends' used bookstore on the lower level of the library through November 15th. The cost is $1.00 for one ticket, $5.00 for six, and $10.00 for twelve. All proceeds will benefit the library, supporting the addition of new books, children's programming, and the adult literacy program.
The bookstore's hours are Tuesday 11:30AM-7:30PM and Wednesday-Saturday 10:30AM-4:30 PM.
Adult Literacy Day Celebrated with Special Performance
In honor of Adult Literacy Day, the Redlands Adult Literacy Program presented the play Seedfolks at the Contemporary Club on the afternoon of September 7th. The audience of over 200 were delighted by the performance of the play based on the book by Paul Fleischman about a group of people of diverse ages and backgrounds who come together to transform a trash-filled city lot into a productive and beautiful garden.
The 23 person cast, directed by Teresa Dolan, included Redlands Adult Literacy Program tutors and learners, as well as actors from the local theater community, who generously gave their time and experience.
Congratulations to adult literacy coordinator Diane Shimota and director Teresa Dolan on their leadership and vision for this special production of Seedfolks and the cast for their entertaining and heartwarming performances!
