|Looking to volunteer in 2019? The Friends have a variety of flexible volunteer opportunities that fit different schedules and time availability. Here are a few:
Adult Literacy Tutors meet weekly with learners for 1½ hours on a date and time that fits with their schedules. Meetings occur at A. K. Smiley Library or at library-approved locations. Tutors are provided with teaching materials and techniques to assist with any challenges that may arise.
To learn more, attend the next Tutor Orientation on January 22 and January 29 from 6pm to 8pm in the Library's Assembly Room. Please call the Redlands Adult Literacy Program office at (909)798-7565, ext. 4138 or email firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or to sign up for the Orientation. Attendence at both sessions is required.
Friends Bookstore Cashiers sign up for two hour shifts that fit their schedules. If you love books, this is a fun way to help the Friends raise money to support Smiley Library. Our used bookstore is the largest of its kind in Southern California. Please call the Bookstore at (909)798-7685 for more information on volunteering.
Behind-the-Scenes Volunteers are needed to sort the many books donated by the community. They are also needed to shelve and organize the books in the bookstore. This dedicated group works every Monday morning. Please call the Bookstore at (909)798-7685 for more information.
Silent Auction volunteers are needed to assist with the selection of the approximately 50 items that are auctioned weekly, prep the books to be sold, make phone calls to winning bidders, and enter data into their Excel spreadsheet. If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please call Louise at (909)792-9141.
