Dear Readers:

As we become accustomed to working from home, looking into the future, we predict companies will adopt a hybrid model of distributed workforces resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. With this new way of working, companies, especially SMBs, will face a new set of technical challenges, most of which will be based around cybersecurity and securing a remote or hybrid workforce.

Last week I was interviewed by my friend and newly elected Glendale City Council member, Ardy Kassakhian, about the challenges we all face in working and teaching from home and the security risks associated with it.

I hope this short 15 minute video is informative and gives you some tips on how to be more security conscious working from home.

Stay safe, and let me know if we can assist with any questions or concerns.

CyberSecurity, pitfalls to avoid while working from home during COVID-19

Six Keys to Securing a Remote Workforce

_____
1. Update your cybersecurity policy and make sure it includes remote working.  2. Know which BYOD (bring your own device) devices are connecting to your organization. Do you require virus protection and VPN?   3. Sensitive data can be accessed through unsafe Wi-Fi networks. Is your WiFi system password still 1234 or your block number?    4. Cybersecurity hygiene and visibility will be critical. Are your kids using the same system you are using for work?
5. Continue to educate your staff. Coronavirus-themed scams are everywhere. Be especially mindful of Business e-mail Compromise (BEC) and Ransomware phishing attacks.    6. Backup, Backup Backup! make sure you have a fail proof hybrid data protection plan.

Threat actors are using the novel coronavirus to impersonate accounts on social media. The example below targets members of a credit union.
Chromebooks are cost effective and safer way for children to use as their primary school work computer. Many schools utilize Google Class Room as their collaborative teaching tool, a Chromebook has everything most children will need to participate and complete their school work.
