End of Winter Updates

Women's Center

Over the last few months we have gone from a season of waiting to now having three women at the center. It is amazing to see God's timing and provision as we move into this new season of the center fully functioning. Many of you have been walking with us over the last few years as we were given the building for the center, then made it into a home, then had two girls here this last summer. But now we are at a place where we are seeing the fulfillment of our vision for the center, and it is an amazing and encouraging thing!

It is one thing to talk about how the center will run, and then another thing to actually seeing it functioning. At the end of November, a family moved to Latvia to work with us bringing our staff to a good amount, then two weeks after they came, our first woman moved in. Over the next few weeks another two women came as well. They participate together in classes, service, art projects, group therapy, and community activities, as they are each on their walk, learning who they are before God. After such a long season of waiting before God in prayer and preparation, it is such a blessing to now see the breakthrough we have contended for, and we know this is just the beginning of seeing the center being used as we have dreamed and hoped for.

With the Women's Center, we are currently raising funds for a new roof! The building was originally fitted with a temporary roof, with the lifespan of the roof being 8-10 years. However, the roof is now 20 years old and is at great risk for leaks.

Through previous fundraising, we were able to patch some leaks in order to buy more time and minimize possible damage. But the time for a new roof is now. We have a team coming to put on the new roof in May, but we have to raise €40,000 before then. If you want to give towards this specific project, please see the donation section below.

Welcome to the Koetje family!
Tom and Kat, and their three kids moved to Latvia at the end of November from Washington State to work at the Women's Center. Kat is working directly with the women, investing in them through Bible studies, mentorship, and living life with them. Tom is working with local businesses to help set up a company that the women at the center can work with while they are at the center in order to start learning specific working skills and to save up money for when they return home. We are so happy to have them with us!
The Christmas party at the cafe was such a fun time to bless the girls with some extra love, good food, and special gifts. We love moments like this.

Pray with us:

  • We have noticed a shift in Riga at the cafe over the last few months with less girls being on the streets. Pray that we will have wisdom to move forward, and to know best how to reach the girls.
  • With our Old Town outreach we are still reaching the men who come into the city, but we are also starting to move into reaching the women in the strip clubs. Pray as we move into this new direction.
  • We are starting to raise funds for our new roof at the Women's Center! Please pray that the funds will come in, and if you feel led to donate as well, the link to give is below.
  • Continued prayers for women on the streets and for the women currently at the center as well.
Thank you for your continued support and prayers,
we are so grateful for you!

Much love, the Freedom61 team
