Winter Update

What's new with Freedom 61?

As we finished fall in Latvia and headed into winter, our staff and interns went on a retreat in the countryside where we spent time praying and seeking the Lord for Freedom 61, bonding as a team, and getting some much needed refreshment and rest as we headed into a new season.
Since then, we have said "hello" and "goodbye" to several interns and one staff, hosted training nights with our cafe volunteers to give them more tools and better equip them as they share the love of God with women in very difficult and vulnerable situations, hosted several short-term outreach teams who came to partner with us from Finland, Austria, United States, Norway, and more, and continued our ongoing work in the cafe, at the center, and in Old Town.
Women's Center
In the fall, we had three women living at our center doing the program. After Christmas wrapped up, two of these women transitioned out of the center and into other jobs and living situations. Please continue to pray for these ladies' transitions as they will need a lot of prayer support in the days and months ahead.
Men's Awareness (Old Town)
As we have been receiving teams from around the world, they have helped us be able to continue to do Men's Awareness outreaches. We have been having some great conversations with the tourists on the streets and also with hotels and businesses in Old Town. We are excited to see where this could go in the future and pray for God to bring us some full-time men to take this project on and expand it.
F61 Cafe
This season, the area where our cafe is located has been changing. The neighborhood is working to push crime out, making street prostitution less of an option for the girls. We have seen a shift of the girls we have known for a while working on the streets less often (we still see them sometimes, making us think they are more working from phones or online) and new girls coming into the area. While we continue relationship with the regular girls, we are also in this season walking the streets more, bringing gifts and coffee, and trying to build relationships and trust with the new girls from scratch. Please pray that we would be able to continue to see and help the girls who have shifted to working through other platforms and keep those relationships strong, as well as for strategies and favor in building trust and relationship with the new girls on the street.
There is a real need in our ministry right now for staff and volunteers. We have many opportunities to serve and help the women in our area but have a limited capacity to do so with the amount of staff we currently have. In the coming months we will be focusing a lot of our attention and prayers on strategizing towards sustainability for the ministry and our staff. We believe God has incredible plans for this ministry for years to come and are in need of some breakthrough, especially in the area of staff and volunteers, to be able to see some of these dreams become realities. Would you please stand with us in prayer as we recruit more staff and volunteers and make changes in our model to be able to transition towards sustainability? Your prayers are an enormous part of the fight for the freedom and redemption of women here in Latvia. Thank you for your faithful prayers and support!

Pray with us:

  • For the two women who have transitioned from the center as they work out what they have learned in a new environment, as well as the two women currently living there as they grow in their walks and discipleship with the Lord
  • For favor with the new girls on the streets, continued relationship with the girls who have been here a while, and greater discernment and understanding of the changing neighborhood and how we can best meet the girls' needs in the current situation
  • New staff, volunteers, and interns that the Lord would have work with us
  • Long-term solutions to sustainability as a ministry and God's wisdom and grace as we strategize how to move in this direction
Thank you for your continued support and prayers,
we are so grateful for you!

Much love, the Freedom61 team
